This employment opportunity is restricted to Nunavut Inuit who reside in Iqaluit only.
Reporting to the Housekeeping Supervisor, the Housekeeping Assistant is responsible for ensuring all areas and departments of the facility are cleaned and maintained in accordance with regulations, policies and departmental procedures. The position helps to ensure that the facility is free from contaminants and is well presented to the general public, clients and staff.
The Housekeeping Assistant provides service to all departments located within the facility and is a key member of the Health Care Team. As a front-line staff for infectious control, staff ensures that the principles of infection control and cross contamination are strictly adhered to. Key areas of concern include Operating Rooms as well as two Birthing Rooms, Nursery and Ward areas. The Housekeeping Assistant will also ensure housekeeping equipment and areas of the facility are secure when duties are completed and that the office doors are closed and locked as well as ensuring the equipment and areas are clean safely stored at the end of the shift.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained with a minimum Grade 8, or equivalent. One year housekeeping and/or laundry experience in a commercial or institutional setting is considered an asset. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in two or more of Nunavut's official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
