Centralized Dispatcher
About the Company
John Ross & Sons Ltd. is a
fifth-generation, family-owned scrap metal recycler and the largest recycler in
Atlantic Canada. With over 80 years in operation, we are proud of our
long-standing history and are now modernizing our logistics operations. We are
seeking a skilled and motivated Centralized Dispatcher to play a key
role in this evolution.
The Role
This is not a traditional
dispatch position. As our Centralized Dispatcher, you will serve as the
"Control Tower" for our growing fleet, overseeing the daily coordination of 15+
drivers and crews across multiple Atlantic Canada locations. Success in this
role requires strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and
the ability to remain calm under pressure. You will quickly learn new systems
and processes while working in a fast-paced, client-focused, and team-oriented
environment where priorities can change rapidly.
Key Responsibilities
· Fleet
Coordination: Plan and execute daily schedules for a diverse fleet,
including luggers, roll-offs, B-trains, and tractor-trailers.
· Asset
Optimization: Use the internal Equipment Matrix to match the right driver
and equipment to each job.
· Real-Time
Routing: Monitor GPS data to identify inefficiencies and make schedule
adjustments as needed.
· Driver
Support & Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for
drivers, ensuring clear communication of pickup details, routing changes, and
safety requirements.
· Operational
Improvement: Track and analyze operational metrics such as wait times and
empty miles to improve efficiency.
· Safety
& Compliance: Uphold safety as a core value by ensuring adherence to
all safety, quality, and compliance procedures.
Qualifications
· Experience:
Minimum of 5 years' experience in a dispatch role within an industrial or
heavy-transport environment.
· Geographic
Knowledge: Strong understanding of Nova Scotia road networks and industrial
areas.
· Technical
Skills: Proficient in MS Office (Excel and Outlook) with the ability to
quickly learn dispatch and fleet management software.
· Problem-Solving
& Resilience: Ability to manage competing priorities from Sales,
Operations, and Drivers while maintaining composure in high-pressure
situations.
What We Offer
· Competitive
salary and comprehensive group benefits
· Monthly
profit-sharing bonus — we share our success with you
· RRSP
matching program
· A
supportive and collaborative team environment
· Opportunities
for professional growth and career advancement
Applicants must be a
Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
