The Canadian Collaboration for Prison Health and Education (CCPHE), in the School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) is seeking a full time Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support Dr. Amanda Slaunwhite with "A mixed methods evaluation of safer supply initiatives to reduce illicit drug overdose in BC" project by conducting analyses of linked administrative health data and project-specific data to determine the impacts of government policies guiding prescribed safer supply on health outcomes.
Housed within the Faculty of Medicine, the School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) is an innovative unit that encompasses many of the health-related groupings at UBC as a collaborative venture. The School is structured around four divisions: Occupational and Environmental Health; Health Services and Policy; Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health Practice; and Health in Populations. The resulting mix of professions and disciplines is seen as a means of connecting individuals and learners to galvanize the relationship between health research, public health and health services and to enhance learning.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the CCPHE Director, Dr. Amanda Slaunwhite, the incumbent will be responsible for:
- Linkage of longitudinal survey data to administrative health data in the Health Data Platform
- Modeling exposure to prescribed safer supply (PSS)
- Creating supplementary baseline measures of health status and co-morbidities preceding PSS exposure
- Creating data visualizations or results tables to communicate results
- Ensuring compliance with ethics, privacy, and data security requirements
- Interpreting and communicating results to the research team and project partners
- Preparing presentations, abstracts, manuscripts, and reports in collaboration with the research team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Successful applicants will have:
- Completed a PhD within 5 years in a relevant discipline (e.g. public health, sociology, or nursing), or a M.D. or D.D.S. within 10 years.
- Experience with population-level administrative databases
- Experience including interpretation of medical/health related data such as Epidemiology, Health Services Research, Health Economics and Biostatistics
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in analyzing and evaluating data
- Ability to facilitate consensus in a team
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Must be proficient with Microsoft operating systems, Excel, Access, Word
- Demonstrated ability to use statistical software including SAS and R
- Ability to perform computer programming and database querying
- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one's own.
- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
