At UBC, we believe that attracting and sustaining a diverse workforce is key to the successful pursuit of excellence in research, innovation, and learning for all faculty, staff and students. Our commitment to employment equity helps achieve inclusion and fairness, brings rich diversity to UBC as a workplace, and creates the necessary conditions for a rewarding career.
The Department of Emergency Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine is a provincially integrated Department committed to clinical and academic leadership in the creation and exchange of knowledge to promote excellence in emergency care. Our 750+ faculty members across the province have an impressive record of research and discovery. Research and innovation initiatives include programs related to prevention of emergencies, improving clinical care, and system improvements.
The Digital Emergency Medicine research group in the Department of Emergency Medicine, led by Dr. Kendall Ho, Professor of Emergency Medicine and Lead, Digital Emergency Medicine, conducts research on the use of digital technologies to improve healthcare delivery and raise digital health literacy. Digital Emergency Medicine carries out research, community engagement, and educational activities to explore how modern information and communication technologies (e.g. mobile and web-based applications, sensors, wearables, AI/ML etc.) can improve health care.
Digital Emergency Medicine invites applications from highly qualified candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position. The successful candidate will contribute to multi-year research on economic evaluation of virtual care services and usage of digital health technologies for patient care. The research seeks to evaluate how technology-enabled health services can improve access to healthcare.
With access to administrative records and the support of a learning health system community, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain experience in undertaking applied economic evaluations, with a specialized focus on digital health and virtual care. The research offers opportunities to enhance skills and experiences in advanced health economic methodological approaches.
The work will involve applying health economics methods (e.g. resource utilization and cost analysis, decision and outcomes modelling) to patient-level data from cohort studies, linked administrative datasets, or other primary data collection. Studies may include statistical and econometric analyses and health economic modelling.
The successful candidate will be under the supervision of Dr. Kendall Ho, with guidance from Dr. Sonya Cressman, SFU Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences, and will work with Digital Emergency Medicine staff and students.
The position will be based at Digital Emergency Medicine, Vancouver, British Columbia.
