  • Permanent Full-Time, Non-Union position
  • Hours: 37.5 per week rotating MtoF 9am to 5pm, then MtoF 2pm to 10pm + rotational on-call duties every other weekend
  • Location: Family Shelter operates inside a hotel located in Waterloo Region.
  • Pay Rate: $53,864 annual salary + additional compensation for on-call hours

In this Role, you will contribute to the Community by ...

working collaboratively with other housing services and supports to assist families, single women, and gender diverse individuals (some who have mobility issues or compromised immune systems and are experiencing homelessness) to locate and secure, safe affordable housing and develop a plan for moving.

Key Responsibilities:

Family Shelter related:

  • Responds to request for services and processes intakes into motels. Completes required paperwork and data entry in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Refers Family Shelter clients for intake into a shelter within Waterloo Region for longer term stays and when more complex supports are required, where appropriate
  • Monitors Family Shelter stays and taxi usage associated, prepares and sends out monthly billings and ensures accurate payment is received. Prepares monthly revenue reports for submission to finance department
  • Purchases gift cards for distribution to Family Shelter clients, ensuring there is ample supply at all times and keeps record of returned receipts

Housing:

  • Assists with community housing applications, referrals to market rent housing support and other resources to assist in finding housing quickly

General:

  • Plans, delivers and coordinates, programming for families in offsite shelter locations that meets the individualized needs of the client (financial literacy, recreation, early childhood development etc.)
  • Ensures that entries into HIFIS database are up-to-date, accurate and makes changes as required
  • Orders transit fare cards from the city and distributes cards to clients
  • Adheres to regulations and requirements of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, Family and Children's Services, Correctional Services Canada, the Residential Tenancy Act, other relevant legislation and regulations, and YWKW policies and procedures
  • Ensures that external and organizational safety standards, policies and procedures are followed for the staff and clients
  • Works as part of a team, and participates in outreach networking, supervision, training/continuing education, program planning and consultation as appropriate

  • Experience in non-profit, social service, and/or health agencies
  • Ability to assess the needs of clients and to work directly with women and families who experience a variety of challenges
  • Conceptual and theoretical knowledge of mental health issues, violence against women, women in conflict with the law, youth and adolescents, crisis and suicide intervention, addictions, life-skills training, counseling techniques and group dynamics
  • Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and relevant software, including HIFIS
  • Ability to think independently, set priorities and resolve problems effectively and efficiently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Harm Reduction, Overdose Prevention and De-escalation training (asset)
  • PPE and COVID Protocol Training (asset)

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in social work or equivalent human services education
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Check documentation
  • Up-to-date Standard First Aid & CPR Level C certificate
