Friends of Ruby is dedicated to supporting the well-being of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth aged 16-29 through mental health services, social programs, and housing. We operate a Youth Centre, offering barrier-free counselling, hot meals, and community programming, and a Transitional Home, providing emergency and long-term housing with life-skills support.

If you are passionate about creating safe, inclusive spaces for marginalized youth, this is your chance to make an impact as a Grocery Volunteer

About the Role

As a Grocery Volunteer, you will be responsible for:

  • Grocery Shopping:

  • Assist in shopping based on the weekly list provided.

  • Select the most cost-effective option for each item without compromising quality.

  • Load groceries into vehicle for transport to the Youth Centre.

  • Food Delivery & Sorting:

  • Unload food from the vehicle into the Youth Centre.

  • Assist in neatly sorting food in the designated space in the pantry for easy inventory tracking and retrieval at the Youth Centre.

What You Bring

  • Comfortable standing and walking for extended periods of time.

  • Able to navigate a grocery store independently.

  • Comfortable lifting items up to 25 lbs.

  • Strong organizational and spatial planning skills.

  • Commitment to social justice, anti-racism, anti-oppression, housing first approach, harm reduction approach, and trauma-informed care.
