About Claystone Waste

Headquartered near Ryley, Alberta, Claystone Waste Ltd. is a municipally owned environmental services leader serving municipal and industrial clients across Western Canada. We operate advanced waste and composting facilities that set new benchmarks for safety, innovation, and environmental stewardship.

Since 1992, we've built a reputation for sustainable growth, financial stability, and community trust. Our mission is simple: to enhance the quality of life for Albertans through responsible waste management and environmental leadership.

Your Role: Engineering Manager

As Claystone's Engineering Manager, you'll lead a talented team delivering capital projects, infrastructure programs, and environmental improvements across our operations. You'll guide everything from design and permitting to construction and commissioning — ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and sustainably.

What You'll Do
  • Champion and deliver Claystone's capital program, managing projects from concept to close-out.
  • Lead engineering design, construction, and environmental compliance across landfill, composting, and transfer operations.
  • Implement Claystone's Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) and serve as the Responsible Member under APEGA.
  • Oversee engineering consultants, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Manage environmental permitting and regulatory compliance in collaboration with consultants and authorities.
  • Provide technical guidance to operations and business development teams on design, feasibility, and financial analysis.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and develop engineers and technical staff through structured performance and professional development plans.
  • Represent Claystone with regulators, municipal partners, and community stakeholders.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering (or related discipline).
  • P.Eng. designation (or eligibility for registration with APEGA within 30 days).
  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience in environmental infrastructure, civil works, or waste management.
  • Proven record leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing large-scale projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of CAD, modeling software, and project management tools (MS Project, AutoCAD, etc.).
  • Expertise in QA/QC, root cause analysis, and risk-based project management.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills — balancing technical depth with practical execution.
The Opportunity

This is a hybrid role with a blend of office-based work in Edmonton and onsite presence at our Ryley facilities. You'll enjoy autonomy, flexibility, and the chance to build lasting environmental infrastructure that Alberta can be proud of.
