Reporting to the AVP, Finance Shared Services, the Manager, Non-Merch Payables will lead the team responsible for end-to-end processing, governance, and oversight of enterprise-wide non-merchandise payables. This includes ensuring timely and accurate invoice processing, managing controls, resolving payment discrepancies, overseeing audit and recovery activities, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Success in this role requires strong relationships across internal business units, external partners, and vendors, with a focus on process optimization, compliance, and operational excellence.

What You'll Do

  • Plan, develop, manage the activities of the team which include ensuring the team is adequately and completely staffed; identifying resource requirements, leading the recruitment activities for new staff; establishing and monitoring performance objectives; and providing professional advice, leadership and direction
  • Develop deep expertise in payables systems and tools, such as the Vendor Support System and payment processing applications
  • Build strong knowledge of enterprise-wide supplier agreements, payment terms, and financial controls that impact non-merchandise payables
  • Oversee the identification, assessment, and remediation of control deficiencies, ensuring compliance with financial policies and audit requirements
  • Resolve escalated vendor inquiries, payment disputes, and system-related issues, ensuring timely follow-up and communication
  • Partner with the AVP in the development of annual and multi-year business plans, defining goals, KPIs, and operational priorities
  • Lead and support the development of frameworks, policies, and standardized procedures related to payables processing, vendor recovery, and dispute management
  • Contribute to annual operating budget preparation, including forecasting and expense analysis
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, third-party service providers, and audit partners, ensuring effective dispute resolution, audit cycle management, and performance improvement opportunities
  • Analyze and present post-payment audit findings, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership
  • Lead process improvement and modernization initiatives, identifying opportunities for automation, efficiency gains, and improved controls to strengthen overall payables performance
  • Support ad-hoc initiatives and cross-functional projects that impact payables operations and financial governance.

What You Bring

  • A university degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience leading or supervising a team within finance, accounts payable, or a related function
  • Strong technical aptitude with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with PeopleSoft or other ERP systems (considered an asset).
  • A results-driven mindset with the ability to consistently meet deadlines and deliver on commitments.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong financial acumen, along with solid general accounting knowledge.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
