- Currently enrolled in a University or College on a full-time basis and returning to school upon completion of the co-op work term(s).
This position will require the successful candidate to provide a letter from the post-secondary educational institution confirming the candidate's co-op eligibility, a transcript and tax credit form(s) from their school's co-op department.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor of Hydraulic Analysis within the Infrastructure & Environmental Services Division, the Co-op Student will provide technical and administrative support to Hydraulic Analysis team. The team is responsible for region-wide water and wastewater servicing strategies and supports the Region's Hydraulic Modeling Program. This role offers a valuable opportunity for hands-on experience with advanced Hydraulic Modeling software's, ArcGIS, and essential database tools. The successful candidate will gain exposure to cutting-edge modeling practices and play a supporting role in shaping infrastructure solutions that have a direct impact on regional services. This placement will provide a strong foundation for developing highly sought-after expertise in public sector Hydraulic Modeling.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in updating and maintaining Hydraulic Models of water and wastewater systems under the guidance of senior team members.
- Support data organization and entry tasks, including importing and reviewing GIS layers, asset data, and Flow Monitoring information.
- Perform basic hydraulic simulations and help document results for planning and operational analysis.
- Help prepare technical figures, maps, and presentation materials using ArcGIS and Microsoft Office tools.
- Conduct initial quality checks on model inputs, outputs, and geospatial data to support QA/QC processes.
- Participate in internal meetings and contribute to discussions by taking notes and summarizing findings.
- Assist in research and compilation of background information related to infrastructure planning projects.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary staff to support ongoing initiatives in servicing strategy development and hydraulic model management.
- Perform other duties as assigned and required
Skills & Qualifications
- Enrolled in a post-secondary program in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Water Resources, or a related field.
- Ability to comprehend and interpret the engineering drawings is required.
- Experience with hydraulic model for water distribution system and/or wastewater collection system would be an asset along with ArcMap concepts.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Effective communicator with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
