About the role

The Human Factors Engineering team spans across Lockheed Martin Canada's main project sites (Kanata, Montreal, Dartmouth). Opportunities are available at each of these sites.

The candidate will be a key member representing and leading the HFE team in a multi-discipline team environment, working closely with the customer, program team and subcontractors to provide human factors guidance and support in the design of facilities/work spaces, workstations, subsystem equipment and graphical user interfaces.

The candidate will participate in engineering activities including but not limited to:

  • Plan, manage and coordinate HFE tasks.
  • Ensure HFE is incorporated in all phases of analysis, design and validation in accordance with Human Engineering processes.
  • Analyze program & product requirements affecting the end user; define HFE requirements and guidelines based on HFE standards, ergonomics and task/operational needs.
  • Identify and analyse end user function, tasks and roles to define operational needs.
  • Provide human engineering expertise and support to the design and development of human -system interfaces in an integrated and collaborative fashion, supporting design, development, and validation.
  • Develop and implement evaluation methodologies to test and assess designs of products & validate compliance against HFE requirements/guidelines.
  • Support the program team in performing trade off evaluations with usability, cost, schedule and risk to optimize product design.
  • Develop HFE analysis, design & assessment results artifacts.
  • Conduct in person and remote data collection workshops, design workshops, technical reviews and regular team status meetings as required; travel may be required.
  • Mentor and lead junior HFE specialists to enable them to develop their skills.

What you bring to the role

What you Bring to the Role:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science discipline & training/courses in Human Factors.
  • 10+ years of industry experience in Human Factors Engineering efforts in the design and development of workspaces, equipment and GUIs or as a UX Researcher.
  • Experience in requirements analysis & requirements derivation; flexibility to adapt quickly to changing requirements.
  • Experience working with Human Factors standards (MIL-STD, ANSI, ISO).
  • Experience in evaluating products against human factors requirements and guidelines and performing trade off evaluations.
  • Experience evaluating human interfaces using modelling tools.
  • Experience working with end user customers to discuss/review design requirements, task/operational needs, product acceptance/verification.
  • Excellent oral communication skills; comfortable interacting with and influencing stakeholders on the team.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • The ability to work effectively both in a team environment and independently as required.

Additional skills desired for the role

  • Familiarity with DOORS, SharePoint, Windchill, Redmine or Jira, SolidWorks, Cameo.
  • Familiar with executing Human Factors or UX in an agile environment.
  • Experience leading an HFE team through the engineering process.
  • Experience with Military/Naval domain.

Language Requirements in Quebec

Knowledge of the English language is required for this role as the position described in this posting requires the candidate to communicate every day with a virtual team outside Quebec as well as communicate with different members of the organization, clients and suppliers located outside of Canada. For engineering positions, the candidate must also be able to read or modify technical documents from our main clients and write technical documents for these same clients.
