About the Role

Western Alliance is building a technology spinoff focused on agentic automation for transportation operations.

Transportation teams spend large portions of their day reading emails, extracting load details, manually pricing lanes, calling carriers, following up on status updates, and handling exceptions one task at a time. These processes are repetitive, inconsistent, and expensive.

The new platform embeds AI-driven systems directly into operational workflows, allowing software to execute quoting, communication, and coordination tasks autonomously with human oversight.

We are looking for an AI Engineer to design and ship these systems in production.

About the Position

This role focuses on applied AI engineering rather than research or experimentation. You will design, implement, and maintain production-grade LLM-powered workflows integrated directly into the platform.

You will work closely with full stack and backend engineers to ensure AI systems are reliable, performant, and scalable.

What You Will Build

You will design and deploy AI systems that:

  • Interpret and normalize inbound requests from email, phone, and APIs
  • Extract structured data from unstructured inputs
  • Perform decision logic and multi-step reasoning
  • Trigger workflow automation across the platform
  • Maintain context, memory, and state across long-running processes
  • Escalate exceptions to humans when required

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement LLM-powered workflows using Python
  • Build agentic systems using LangChain and custom orchestration
  • Implement prompt engineering, versioning, and evaluation
  • Integrate AI systems via APIs, webhooks, and event-driven architectures
  • Build FastAPI services for AI inference and orchestration
  • Ensure reliability, determinism, and performance of AI systems
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams on workflow design
  • Monitor cost, latency, and failure modes in production

Required Qualifications

  • Strong Python engineering background
  • Experience building and deploying LLM-powered systems
  • Experience with LangChain or similar frameworks
  • Experience integrating AI systems via APIs and webhooks
  • Experience with prompt engineering and structured outputs
  • Understanding of production constraints such as latency, cost, and reliability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with agentic or multi-step AI workflows
  • Experience with voice, email, or messaging-based AI systems
  • Experience working in operational or enterprise software
  • Startup or applied AI engineering experience

This Role Is Not a Fit If You

  • Focus primarily on research or experimentation
  • Have only built demos or prototypes
  • Avoid system-level or backend engineering
  • Have not shipped AI features to production users
