At Manulife, we offer a collaborative environment where you will craft, develop, and deploy AI-powered applications to support internal teams and client-facing platforms.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and deploy production AI applications end to end, focusing on LLM-powered services for chat, Q&A, summarization, extraction, and content generation.
  • Build and maintain secure, scalable APIs, model serving layers, and containerized inference services with observability and monitoring.
  • Create robust data ingestion pipelines: chunking, metadata, embedding generation, indexing, and freshness strategies.
  • Ensure data privacy, PII protection, content filtering, policy enforcement, and auditability to meet compliance requirements (e.g., FINRA, SEC).
  • Optimize performance and cost through batching, caching, autoscaling, and efficient token usage.
  • Collaborate with domain and product teams to transform use cases into measurable, production-ready AI features; communicate progress, trade-offs, and results to collaborators.
  • Translate ambiguous problems into defined AI solutions with clear SLAs, SLOs, and success metrics.
  • Implement safety guardrails: filters, prompt policies, tool/function constraints, and incident logging.
  • Provide reusable components, SDKs, and reference architectures to accelerate adoption across teams.
  • Document data lineage, retention, and security controls; participate in compliance reviews and audits.
  • Collaborate with financial domain experts to understand complex use cases in wealth management, retirement planning, and client servicing.
  • Work closely with data scientists, product managers, and engineering teams to translate the latest advancements in generative AI into practical, production-ready applications.
  • Regularly involve collaborators: collect needs, explain technical choices, and convert outcomes into business value.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years building production ML/AI systems with deployed services.
  • Strong Python skills and experience with LLM frameworks.
  • Hands-on with cloud platforms, Docker/Kubernetes, and CI/CD.
  • Practical experience with embeddings, vector stores, and retrieval design.
  • Experience building secure APIs and inference services with monitoring and observability.
  • Strong SQL skills for analysis, data validation, and extraction from enterprise stores.
  • Understanding of latency/cost trade-offs and optimization techniques.
  • Strong communication abilities and background in partnering with non-technical customers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture, APIs, and secure software design in regulated environments.
  • Strong data engineering skills for ETL/ELT, schema design, and metadata management.
  • Exposure to multimodal pipelines.

  • We'll empower you to learn and grow the career you want.
  • We'll recognize and support you in a flexible environment where well-being and inclusion are more than just words.
