This role will ensure scalability, code quality, rapid feature deployment, and strong integration with our commercial and research teams. You would work closely with the commercial team, who sets the tech roadmap, this role is responsible for layering in technical constraints, risks, and opportunities presenting clear solution options that enable collaborative decision-making. You will oversee a team of developers, set technical standards, and foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and excellence.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical LeadershipLead technical planning by breaking down features into actionable engineering tasks, supporting estimation, and assessing impacts on architecture, infrastructure, scalability, and long-term product health.Take ownership of technical decision-making, providing clear rationale and ensuring alignment with business and technical objectives.Own and maintain the system architecture to ensure scalability, performance, security, and long-term maintainability.Guide engineering direction, including design patterns, frameworks, and platform-wide technical standards.Review and approve major technical designs to ensure coherence and consistency across the codebase.Prioritize and manage technical debt while promoting code reusability across platform products.Provide clear technical direction, coaching, and mentorship to developers and QA.Delivery, Execution, and Cross-Functional AlignmentTranslate commercial strategy with Product Management into executable development plans.Own sprint planning, estimation, backlog refinement, and day-to-day engineering execution.Deliver features, improvements, and fixes predictably and at high quality.Oversee release management, testing standards, and code quality.Track engineering metrics such as velocity, cycle time, defects, and deployment frequency.Keep Commercial informed with clear visibility into timelines, risks, and dependencies.Collaborate with Product, Design, and Infrastructure to ensure technical feasibility and alignment.Present clear solution options, risks, and trade-offs to support businessand strategic decisions.Coordinate with other teams on shared technical initiatives, integrations, and platform consistency.Commercial and Cross-Business AlignmentWork closely with the Commercial team, who sets the high-level strategy, to ensure engineering plans align with business goals.Translate strategic priorities into clear technical options, feasibility assessments, and delivery paths.Present risks, trade-offs, and technical constraints to Commercial andProduct in a clear and structured way.Provide transparent reporting on timelines, dependencies, resource needs, and delivery expectations.Ensure integration points with adjacent teams are well scoped, documented, tested, and validated.Team Leadership and People ManagementLead, mentor, and develop full-stack developers and QA, supporting skill growth and performance.Provide regular feedback, goal-setting, and coaching aligned to defined outcomes.Run engineering routines such as standups, retrospectives, code reviews, and reporting.Build a high-performing team culture grounded in collaboration, ownership, learning, and accountability.Lead technical hiring, onboarding, and capability development across the engineering team.Operational ExcellenceEnsure modern DevOps practices including continuous integration, continuous deployment, automated testing, observability, monitoring, and alerting.Maintain system reliability and lead incident response, including root-cause analysis and long-term improvement plans.Uphold best practices for security, privacy, and data protection.Maintain strong documentation across architecture, APIs, integrations, and code to support clarity, onboarding, and long-term maintainability.Experience and Skills Required8+ years of progressive software development experience, with 3+ years in a technical leadership role.Proven success leading development of scalable, user-facing SaaS, marketplace, or multi-tenant products.Expertise in system architecture, cloud environments, API design, and scalable patterns.Experience managing and mentoring developers and QA, and building a strong team culture.Ability to identify technical problems early, break them down into their root causes, and translate the complexity into clear solution options, including associated risks, trade-offs, and impacts, for Commercial, Product, and leadership stakeholders.Strength in planning, prioritization, code qualityExperience & Skills Required8+ years of progressive software development experience, with 3-5+ years in a leadership role.Proven track record of leading platform or product development in SaaS, marketplace, or multi-tenant platforms.Demonstrated success delivering scalable, high-quality, user-facing products in fast-paced, startup or scale-up environments.Strong background in establishing technical planning, QA, and documentation processes.Deep knowledge of modern development practices (CI/CD, automated testing, version control, modular/component-based design).Expertise in scalable system architecture, cloud platforms, and code reusability across multiple products.Proficiency with project management tools (ClickUp, Jira, or similar), ensuring clear timelines, reporting, and prioritization.Ability to translate technical complexity into clear options, risks, and trade-offs for commercial, product, and leadership teams.Strong people leadership: hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and feedback, leading with humility and collaboration.Salary:$150,000 - $160,000 base salaryPosition TypeNature: Permanent, full-timeWork Location: Vancouver or TorontoStart Date:
