**Experienced Traditional Timber Framer (Mortise & Tenon)** **Location**: Benalto, AB (shop) with projects across AB/BC/SK **Type**: Full-time, Part-Time, Seasonal **Company**: Top Peg Timber Frame Construction **About the role** Top Peg builds premium custom timber work—ornamental and structural trusses, entries, porches, canopies, pergolas, gazebos, and more. We’re hiring an **experienced traditional timber framer** who can independently **lay out, cut, and fit mortise-and-tenon joinery** to tight tolerances, then help lead shop pre-fit and site raisings. **What you’ll do** - Read shop drawings and perform precise **layout** (square-rule and scribe-rule). - **Cut, fit, and finish** mortises, tenons, housings, braces, scarf joints, and draw-bored pegs. - Perform **pre-fit**, staging, tagging, and install hardware/fasteners. - **Site raising/installation** with rigging and crane coordination; set posts, trusses, and frames safely. - Contribute to **surface prep and finishing**, repair touch-ups, and quality control. - Maintain tools, keep a clean and safe work area. - **Tools/equipment you’re comfortable with**: chain mortiser, beam saw (16-5/16"), circular & track saws, band saw, routers, drill press, chisels, slicks, mallets, layout squares, lasers, telehandler/forklift. **Must-have qualifications** - **3+ years** in traditional timber framing (not just general carpentry). - Proven **mortise & tenon** skillset with photos/portfolio. - Able to read drawings, convert dimensions, and hit **tight tolerances**. - Physically fit: lift 50-80 lb, **work at height**, indoor/outdoor, all seasons. - Strong safety habits; **valid driver’s license**: - Eligible to work in Canada; reliable attendance and teamwork. **Nice-to-have (assets)** - Fall Protection, First Aid, CSTS-2020, WHMIS; telehandler/forklift tickets. - **Rigging/crane signaling** experience. - SketchUp/Shop drawing literacy - Finishing knowledge, stain/finish workflows. **Compensation** - Competitive hourly wage **commensurate with experience**. **How to apply** - Resume and contact info - Two references - Wage expectations Top Peg is an equal-opportunity employer.
