About Us
The Nova Scotia Securities Commission (Commission) is an independent, quasi-judicial tribunal created by the Securities Act. The Commission's mandate is to provide investors with protection from practices and activities that tend to undermine investor confidence in the fairness and efficiency of the capital markets and, to the extent not inconsistent with an adequate level of investor protection, to foster the process of capital formation in Nova Scotia.
Our goal is to regulate, educate, investigate and enforce to ensure compliance with Nova Scotia securities laws.
About Our Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Enforcement, the Deputy Director, Investigations, is a key member of the Enforcement Branch of the Commission.
The Deputy Director, Investigations is accountable for the expedient administration and enforcement of Nova Scotia securities and derivatives laws through the conduct of fair and efficient investigations to further the mandate of the Commission.
The Deputy Director, Investigations is responsible for the management and oversight of all phases of investigations, including initial case assessment; direction on opening of investigation files; evidence collection, preservation, and analysis; recommendations to the Director of Enforcement for advancing or concluding investigations, formal and informal disruption measures, or referrals, and investigative best practices and procedures; management of the Commission investigative team and workloads; as well as conducting their own investigations.
Qualifications and Experience
A bachelor's degree in business, accounting, law, or a related discipline is required. A minimum of seven years' experience as an investigator or conducting audits for a regulatory authority or law enforcement agency, or seven years' experience working in the investment industry is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A working knowledge of securities legislation, an accounting designation, and/or management experience are considered assets. Preference may be given to those with applicable securities and derivatives related courses (such as Canadian Securities Course, Chief Compliance Officers Course, etc.).
The position requires an aptitude to deal with complex issues, strong analytical skills, tact and diplomacy, and capacity for decisive action.
The Deputy Director, Investigations must comply with the NSSC's Conflict of Interest Rules.

Working Conditions
Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.
May be required to work overtime on occasion.
