The Role

Britannia Mine Museum is proud to be opening the full-service café Chatterbox Café in Britannia Beach,
BC. This café is open to the public as well as Museum visitors, and is located just off the Sea to Sky
Highway. The Cafe offers specialty coffees with a front-of-house coffee bar, as well as light fare including sandwiches and pastries. The location is easily accessed off highway 99, for travelers between Vancouver and Squamish/Whistler.

The Head Barista works under the direction of Guest Services leadership to oversee, coordinate, schedule, and run day-to-day operations of the Chatterbox Café with a focus on provided a value-added service to
Museum visitors and the public, while increasing revenue opportunities for the Museum.

Important Information
- Starting wage $18.00
- Permanent employees regularly working 37+ hours/week have access to a competitive benefits plan after 3 months of employment.
- Schedules include one or more weekend days as well as stat holidays, as these are our busiest times.

Key Outcomes

Guests will rave about the friendly service, delicious specialty coffee and quality food offerings, encouraging them to make a stop at the Chatterbox Café part of their routine whenever they are driving through. Visitors to the Museum will extend their stay and enjoy the selection and quality of the food and beverages available during their visit, enhancing their experience at the Museum. Our Head Barista will ensure the café will be well organized and impeccably clean, staff will provide outstanding service and will be knowledgeable about our products. Inventory and stock and will be ordered efficiently and with cost effectiveness and reduced waste in mind. The café will bring additional revenue to the museum and add value to the visitor experience. The Head Barista will work effectively as part of the Guest Service team, supporting the other baristas and café servers to provide outstanding service and specialty coffee preparation.

Key Responsibilities
- As the in-house expert on specialty coffee, making specialty coffees for customers, as well as training staff on techniques, equipment and products related to specialty coffee preparation.
- Overseeing day-to-day operations of the café, under the direction of the Guest Services supervisor and manager; key holder duties and cash out procedures; monitoring inventory; equipment & supplies
- Taking the lead on knowledge of menu and offerings; making recommendations on drink and menu options, training staff on food and drink menu items.
- Assisting leadership in creating systems, schedules and routines to keep café running smoothly and efficiently, with sales and waste-reduction in mind, such as single-use items.
- Ensuring health and safety, and food service standards are upheld; training employees on applicable health and safety practices and regulations.
- Ensuring high standards are upheld regarding customer service, accuracy and speed of food and drink preparation, and cleanliness through demonstrating best practices, and delegation/work direction.
- Championing BMM values and organizational goals.

Your Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of specialty coffee preparation; strong understanding of espresso and drip coffee methods, selecting beans, ensuring high quality of drinks.
- Cafe operations and food service and preparation; safe food handling skills; café equipment; staff training; scheduling
- Inventory and ordering strategies and best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal skills able to engage with a diverse range of customers
- Able to identify needs and opportunities regarding café services

**Qualifications**:

- 2+ years’ experience as a barista, in a fast-paced and busy specialty coffee shop.
- 1 year experience in a lead role in a customer service operation, ideally food services, but may also include guest services, retail, etc.)
- FoodSafe Level 1; willing to take FoodSafe Level 2 and Serving it Right if required.
- Bondable.
