Ophthalmic Technician

We are searching for an energetic, team-oriented, positive ophthalmic technician with excellent communication skills and an eye for detail to join our team Background in ophthalmology or optometry is an asset, but not required. A willingness to learn and study is required.

**Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours/week, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (regular hours), with occasional weekend, overtime and/or closing (evenings - late shift) and early opening rotations.**

**Job Summary**

The function of the ophthalmic technician is to assist the ophthalmologist or optometrist in evaluating and treating his/her patients in any way needed. This includes but is not limited to screening patients, performing tests, setting up and assisting with procedures, keeping examining and treatment areas clean and organized and attending teaching sessions provided by or recommended by the department.

**Main Duties Include**:

- Performing tests on patients including but not limited to visual fields, A-scans, iTrace, OCT, auto-refraction, tonometry, pachymetry, visual acuity, refraction, and IOP checks;
- Setting up and assisting with laser and other in-clinic procedures;
- Conducting weekly inventory;
- Washing and preparing instruments for sterilization on a daily basis;
- Setting up exam rooms each morning and putting away instruments at the end of the day;
- Maintaining the examination, treatment, and testing rooms, keeping them tidy, clean and stocked;
- Calibrating instruments on a scheduled basis;
- Attending teaching sessions provided;
- Working up patients and preparing them for upcoming surgery;
- Perform any tasks within the scope of assisting the ophthalmologist/optometrist with his/her evaluation and management of a patient and maintaining an appropriate work environment;
- Some tasks may be assigned to certain people on a permanent basis.

**Performance Requirements (as they relate to the position)**:

- Knowledge of business office procedures
- Knowledge of ophthalmic medicine
- Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation to prepare patient information
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction
- Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing - communication is extremely important
- Ability to efficiently and effectively work independently, and make numerous decisions with a high degree of common sense

- a background or interest in science.
- ophthalmic or Medical Office Assistant certification

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
