The Health Information Systems Division is responsible for the administration of Alberta’s Health Information Act including health information policy and advice as well as the strategic planning and delivery of information management and technology systems and services that support the strategic goals of the Ministry and the health system.

**Role**:
Reporting to the Security Manager, the Database Access and Security Specialist monitors' access to Health databases system to ensure that health information is accessed and used appropriately. The role also develops and maintains current reporting requirements with regard to the use of health data.

This position is required somebody with logical and methodical skills.

**Responsibilities**:

- Audit database use in compliance with Alberta Health's Information Security Management Directives and policies.
- Conduct audits of database security where necessary and as directed practices.
- Educate program areas on the appropriate use of health information.

**Qualifications**:
A **University Degree** in Information Security or other related field (e.g. Economics, Statistics, Health Administration or Management), and a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in an information security role is **required.**

**Required **experience includes:

- Information security related role
- Knowledge of information protection, security and privacy principles
- Experienced monitoring database access
- SQL experience related to developing and supporting DB2, Oracle or other database product
- Work experience in an auditing or monitoring role

The following experience is considered an **asset**:

- Experience working with security event monitoring tools
- Proved experience in process engineering or comparative analysis roles (with examples)
- Experience in the health system
- Experience with health sector privacy and security considerations

**Equivalency**
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
A related two-year diploma and four years related work experience; or
A related Master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution and some directly related work experience

**Salary**:
$2,556.10 to $3,355.81 bi-weekly ($66,714.21 - $87,586 per year)

**Position Location**:
ATB Place North Tower, Edmonton. This position requires working from the office with an option to qualify for a hybrid work arrangement (in accordance with GOA policy).
