**Job Description**:
***: Under the general supervision of the Administrator and as a member of the Pioneer Ridge Management Team, is responsible for the planning, directing, and supervising of the Section. Key responsibilities include coordinating Section programs, including resident life enrichment, volunteer, and pastoral care in compliance with Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Standards.

**DIVISIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Participates as a member of the Pioneer Ridge Management Team by providing input into Division organizational and operational reviews, budget issues, technical matters, and major issues management. Also participates by providing input into the identification and development of Divisional policies, strategic initiatives, projects, and priorities.
- In collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, ensures that Pioneer Ridge is a place where all residents live with dignity and in security, safety and comfort, and have their physical, psychological, social, spiritual and cultural needs adequately met.
- Ensures that residents are provided with care and services that integrate a palliative care philosophy.

**SECTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Plans, coordinates, and supervises the provision of recreation and social activities that include a range of indoor and outdoor recreation, leisure and outings that are of a frequency and type to benefit all residents of Pioneer Ridge and reflect their interests; ensures necessary supplies and appropriate equipment are available for the activities.
- Maintains continuity in life of residents through valued activities, as well as opportunities to grow and develop by discovering new abilities and learning new skills and talents.
- Provides non-pharmacological interventions to residents in an effort to help reduce resident distress and anxiety.
- With input from residents and families, develops, implements, and communicates to all residents and families, the schedule of recreation and social activities offered during days, evenings and weekends.
- Provides information to residents about community activities that may be of interest to them and provides assistance and support to permit residents to participate in activities that may be of interest to them if they are not able to do so independently.
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of existing and new legislation, regulations, and Ministry standards as they pertain to the Section and ensures adherence to same.
- Coordinates volunteer recruitment, training, retention and recognition programs and the provision of pastoral care services in Pioneer Ridge.
- Assesses Section staffing needs, makes recommendations on complement amendments and organizational structure, participates in recruitment processes, and makes effective hiring decisions.
- Supervises Section staff including staff development, performance management/review, coaching/mentoring, health and safety, collective agreement administration, discipline, and termination decisions.
- Prepares and monitors Section’s annual operating and capital budget.
- Represents Pioneer Ridge on committees; liaises with community support agencies.
- Initiates studies and investigations affecting normal sectional operations so as to enhance and improve upon existing methods of operation.
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education/Experience**:

- Degree or diploma in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, or other related field; and
- Minimum one year of experience in a health care setting
- Minimum three years’ supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment

**Skills/Abilities**:

- A genuine interest and understanding of the needs of the frail elderly
- Ability to communicate
