**ON POINT FACILITATOR**
**Division**: Community and Justice
**Work Status**: Full-Time
**Location**: Durham Region (all offices as required)
**About the Role**:
The On Point Program is a harm reduction-based program dedicated to protecting the public and substance users from contamination caused by indiscriminate disposal of used syringes in public areas. The program has been created to recruit, train and support multiple individuals with lived experience to attend identified areas of concern within the City of Oshawa and pick up any needles and other harm reduction equipment in a safe and cautious manner and assure their proper disposal. The program will also work in tandem with our other harm reduction services to meet program goals. This program will facilitate opportunities for individuals to gain employment experience, build skills, and increase their ability to secure and maintain appropriate housing.
**You’ll be working on things like**:
**Service User Support**
- Follow best practice guidelines to ensure safety to self and others.
- Support and train project workers with lived experience
- Create and set goals with project workers related to housing and long-term employment where needed.
- Provide safer sharps handling training and other training as required to promote safety on the job.
- Establish a rapport with workers to support ongoing needs.
- Lead team meetings and be responsible for taking or delegating minute taking duties.
**Case Management/Documentation**
- Collaborate with other On Point Facilitator to create all quarterly reports and submit to Coordinator of Harm Reduction Services
- Monitor and maintain program supply requests.
- Tracking of statistical data for the program
- Schedule workers hours and locations and keep accurate records of participants hours and submit them as required for hourly compensation.
- Ensure all forms and reports are completed as required.
- Complete accurate statistical and narrative reports
**Community Outreach**
- Accept, monitor and stat all incoming syringes, drug paraphernalia and sharps containers used for disposal.
- Provide referrals where necessary and requested to the appropriate resources.
- Assist with program promotion.
- Be responsive to partnership and community needs within the scope and context of the program.
- Represent the agency programs and services.
- Maintain office area in a tidy and presentable manner.
**If you have the following we want to hear from you**
- Possesses a college diploma or university degree in an area such as Addictions and Mental Health or Social Services
- Previous work experience related to Harm Reduction/Needle Exchange
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong ability to work with a diverse, stigmatized, and marginalized population and a strong desire and interest to work with persons at risk in all aspects of daily living.
- Ability to provide brief counselling and crisis support.
- Non-judgmental and flexible
- Must have Class G License and access to a vehicle with minimum of $2,000,000 liability insurance.
- Must have Hepatitis B vaccinations.
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions in written, verbal, or diagram form.
- Ability to adapt to meet changing work needs and demands.
- Able to maintain filing systems, basic databases, and records.
- Superior telephone manners and strong interpersonal skills
- Strong written and verbal skills to communication skills
- Strong customer service orientation

- **Awareness of the existing issues, strengths and challenges within the Oshawa community (homeowner, business, service user)**:

- **Be able to implement continued training and mentorship for program workers**
**Working Conditions**
- Must be able to work in all JHS Durham Locations and in the community.
- May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.
- Works outside in all weather (modified work for severe weather) and various terrain (as is reasonable)
