**The Opportunity**
The Waste Management and Environmental Sustainability Department is comprised of three Branches: Solid Waste Operations, Solid Waste Management Policy and Planning, and Environmental Risk Management and Compliance. Overall, this Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's Landfill site, which includes non-hazardous solid waste disposal, household hazardous waste receiving and disposal, leaf and yard waste disposal and composting, and solid waste collection and disposal. The Environmental Risk Management and Compliance Branch aims to minimize environmental risk associated with growth and corporate infrastructure, including Source Water Protection, Climate change strategy, Sustainable Development Strategy, Contaminated site response, sewer use by-law, spill response, ground water and surface water monitoring and investigations, and site plan reviews. This Department also develops and maintains strategies that promote circular economy and environmental sustainability, including waste diversion programs, sustainable waste management strategy, public outreach, and education.
Reporting to the Supervisor of Waste Collection Services, the Waste Collection and Contract Monitor is responsible for conducting on-going inspections of residential, industrial, commercial and institutional sites to ensure compliance with the municipal waste collection contracts and municipal by-laws. This position ensures the quality control of waste collection programs and service delivery associated with garbage and divertible materials are conducted according to the City's Waste Management By-law, the Waste Collection contract and established municipal standards. This position will assist with the monitoring and supervision of the City's waste collection service providers to ensure they perform according to contract requirements.

**Education **(degree/diploma/certifications)
- Two (2) year College Diploma in Business, Environmental Studies or a related discipline.
- Strong Knowledge of waste management practices with emphasis on curbside waste collection, waste collection vehicles, customer service, contract management and municipal standards and bylaws.
- Position Equivalency Code: A
**Experience**
- Two (2) years of cumulative part-time experience or one (1) year of full-time experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities
- Two (2) years of experience in a related or similar job, including contract administration, residential waste collection, waste auditing and by-law enforcement.
- Two (2) years of experience in a customer service environment.
**Knowledge/Skill/Ability**
- General knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements:
- City waste and reecycling programs and related by-laws; Municipal Government policies/practices and the Occupational Health and Safety Act; Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act
- Demonstrated Ability to:
