**ABOUT THE LITTLE WINGS PROGRAM**

The Little Wing music program for preschoolers and toddlers teaches students foundational music skills by playing games and participating in other interactive musical activities. Little Wing students have one weekly group music lesson in which they use classic rock songs to learn about rhythm, song structure, melody and dynamics through play.

**ABOUT THE ROOKIES PROGRAM**

Rookies is a music program designed for children 6-7 years old with no previous musical experience. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn music fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they are then able to decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101.

**ABOUT THE JOB**

The Early Rockers Music Instructor & Programs Director is a key member of the School of Rock Vancouver team. They prepare and deliver music lessons to our youngest students, managing various aspects of the Little Wing and Rookies programs. Little Wing lessons are designed for students aged 3-5, focus on foundational music skills through interactive and enjoyable group sessions centered around classic rock music. Additionally, Rookies lessons introduce students aged 5-7 to drums, guitar, bass, keyboard, and vocals. Beyond teaching, the position involves administrative duties such as developing long-term plans, preparing students for performances, communicating with parents, monitoring and reporting on student progress, establishing learning objectives and program outcomes, scheduling, marketing and sales activities, and other administrative tasks to continually grow and improve the programs.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to;
- Deliver lessons using the School of Rock Methodologies and curriculum for both Little Wing and Rookies programs, as well as private lessons
- Teach beginner private lessons when required or assigned
- Establish and communicate overall program objectives
- Develop lesson plans with clear learning outcomes that meet the overall program objectives
- Develop and implement learning assessments and documentation tools
- Document and report on student progress in School of Rock systems at the end of each lesson and throughout each semester as required
- Interact with parents and students regularly by being visible and accessible in the school
- Communicate regularly with parents and admin on progress of students after lessons
- Using existing curriculum, develop and expand program offerings to accommodate various skill levels and age groups.
- Coordinate with the Studio Manager to schedule classes
- Collaborate with other instructors and the Music Director to include Little Wing and Rookies students in seasonal shows and performances.
- Integrate the season’s music theme within the programs, while managing, developing and directing the programs’ end-of-season performance numbers
- Create and maintain a safe, friendly and positive learning environment
- Attend and successfully complete all required training
- Assist in rehearsals and basic maintenance in the school
- Take a leading role in the sales and marketing activities of the programs in collaboration with the General Manager.
- Research, develop, and implement opportunities for partnerships, off-site programming, participation in marketing events, day-time programming, collaboration with schools and parent groups, and other initiatives to grow and expand the programs.
- Adhere to the SOR Code of Conduct, Employee Manual, and safety policies, including the Monitoring and Supervision policy.
- Attend and participate in meetings, as well as seasonal events and shows
- Other duties as assigned to assist the Music Director, Management, and school.
- This is a new position, and duties and responsibilities may shift or change over time

**REQUIREMENTS**
- 2 + years of experience teaching and/or working with children under 6 years old
- Experience in a supervisory or management role is an asset
- Experience and understanding of music fundamentals
- Ability to play at least one of the following instruments proficiently, and others at a beginner level at minimum; drums, guitar, bass, keys, ukulele, and vocals. The ability to teach all instruments at a beginner level.
- Education in or knowledge of music theory is an asset
- An understanding of how to engage an audience; Experience in theatre, dance, or vocals is a plus but not required
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to deal well with a wide range of people
- An effective, professional, and positive communicator with exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized and tech savvy with the ability to learn software and processes quickly
- Demonstrate a warm command of the lesson room and be capable of communicating students’ musical progress to parents
