JOB TYPE: Contractor: P/T, 1-2 days a week with opportunity to grow

PAY RATE: HOURLY $48-$60/hour (depending on teacher's experience/training)

REPORTS TO: Owners & Studio Manager

BACKGROUND:

PMM is a small but mighty music school located in the trendy South Granville neighbourhood of Vancouver. As a result of our consistent, and continued growth, we are in need of an Early Childhood Educator, specializing in music, capable of leading group classes in the mornings for ages 0-months to 5 years. This contracted position is new to PMM, but is ideal for a current early childhood educator looking to expand their music program into a space larger than their personal home, or to branch out their program into the South Granville neighbourhood. This contracted position will ideally start with 2 (or more) mornings per week, but has the opportunity to expand to more days as the program grows/fills with students. PMM's main hall has capacity to hold up to 10 tots and their parents for morning classes, ideally between 8am-1pm Monday through Friday (weekends are an option too though). Teacher-Contractors are paid on an hourly rate once per month.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The ECE Music Educator will be responsible for teaching music to groups of children ages 0-months to 5 years, and their parents. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with an accredited ECE program, as well as an established clientele. They will have a deep passion for early childhood music education, excellent rapport with young children and families, and have experience in the developmental growth of children. Candidates should be knowledgeable in foundational music skills, early childhood learning theories, and teaching strategies, with experience in classroom management and guidance. They will bring creativity, resourcefulness, and strong communication skills to foster a positive, engaging, and safe learning environment to this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer group classes, on a drop-in, weekly, and/or semesterly basis
  • Prepare cogent lesson plans for each class
  • Provide ongoing feedback to parents/students throughout the class on progress and/or activities to try at home (if applicable)
  • Promote your program in partnership with PMM to attract new participants
  • Encourage fun and life-long musicianship in your classes
  • If applicable, encourage your classes or the class participants to participate in the studio's annual recitals
  • Assist parents/students to secure materials and/or music books, if needed

REQUIREMENTS

  • Diploma, degree, or equivalent experience in Early Childhood Education and/or Early Music Education
  • At least 1-year previous experience as a lead-instructor for accredited ECE program
  • Pass a background check (including vulnerable sector)
  • Experience using digital attendance software

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE THAT WOULD BE BENEFICIAL TO CANDIDATES:

  • Generally knowledgeable or keen interest in learning about musical instruments
  • Generally knowledgeable on how to, and keen interest in, promoting/marketing your program externally to the public
  • Familiarity with Discord
  • Fluency in a second language
  • Playing experience and/or training on at least one instrument (like piano, drums, guitar, or voice)

Job Types: Part-time, Freelance

Pay: $48.00-$60.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5 – 25 per week
