**Job Overview**
Apex Language and Career College (ALCC) is a private English language school in Halifax, Nova Scotia, dedicated to supporting international students on their educational journey. To strengthen our operations, we are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to oversee our financial records and ensure compliance with financial standards.

**Responsibilities**
- Accurately record and reconcile tuition payments, refunds, and student account balances.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, including vendor invoices, utilities, and supply purchases.
- Process payroll for instructors and administrative staff, tracking schedules and contracts.
- Maintain ledgers, reconcile monthly bank statements, and assist with year-end financial preparation.
- Prepare financial reports to support school management in analyzing enrollment, budgets, and program performance.
- Complete and submit required government filings such as payroll remittances, sales tax, pension contributions, and workers’ compensation.

**Experience**
- Completion of a college program or courses in accounting, bookkeeping, or business administration (preferred).
- Familiarity with computerized accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks) and MS Excel/Word.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in a professional school setting.
- Experience with payroll processing is a plus.
- Ability to analyze financial data and provide insights for decision-making is highly valued.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with team members across various departments.

Pay: From $16.80 per hour

Expected hours: 30 per week

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Halifax, NS B3J 3K3
