**About this opportunity**
The General Maintenance Technician will keep equipment, systems, and building ready for use by inspecting of equipment and systems for conformance with operational standards, troubleshooting malfunctions, conferring with technicians and management to resolve maintenance problems. This position will also be responsible for coordinating tradespeople, following standard operating policies and procedures, and reporting any needed changes.
**What you will do**
- Ensures maintenance operations by determining work priorities and scheduling repairs, maintenance, and installation of equipment, establishing rapport with tradesman, technicians or contractors;
- Conducts general and preventative maintenance of: carpentry, masonry, welding, concrete repairs, electrical, plumbing, mechanical work, other semi-skilled trade techniques, changing lights, minor adjustment to furniture and equipment, etc.
- Maintains building accessibility and appearance by transporting materials to disposal area for waste pick up or recycling, removing ice and snow from walkways/doorways, completing minor painting and office improvements, cleaning and organizing service rooms, general cleaning activities indoors and outdoors, etc.;
- Perform operations, maintenance and repair of grounds, buildings, machinery or equipment by use of hand tools, power tools and maintenance/construction equipment;
- Maintains effective and productive relationships with building occupants, tradesmen, technicians and service providers by following up on queries, providing information and resolving problems;
- Perform all other duties as requested by Management in order to help the team effort;
- Complies with all health and safety standards and ensures a safe and clean working environment by understanding building safety features, inspecting and maintaining alarm and fire protection devices, overseeing fire and health regulations on building matters, participating as a member of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee, etc.;
- Support and contribute to a healthy and safe work environment by following all workplace regulations, policies, and initiatives, including reporting all first aid injuries, accidents, and workplace hazards.
**What you have to offer**
- High School Diploma (or the equivalent) along with a minimum three (3) years related work experience;
- Knowledge of construction, maintenance and trade theories including terminology, practices, materials and common calculations;
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and make or arrange for necessary repairs;
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions, shop drawings, plans and specifications;
- Ability to set priorities and organize workload according to service requirements;
- Experience using basic computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet);
- Ability to lift and carry suppliers, packages and boxes of moderate weight (30-40Ibs);
- Must have good interpersonal skills, be able to effectively communicate (both verbal and written), and be team-oriented;
- Possess a strong work ethic, dependable, takes initiative and accountability;
- Available to work overtime or be on-call when needed.
