**GROUNDS WORKER***

This unionized position is 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Upon successful completion of probation, the employee will have access to a comprehensive benefits package that includes extended health and dental benefits, LTD coverage, and Municipal Pension Plan.

**THE** **ROLE***

This is skilled, semi-skilled and manual work of some variety pertaining to the general maintenance, renovation and construction of grounds and delivery of materials and equipment throughout the School District. The duties include safe transport and use of light vehicle, tractor/backhoe and trailer, and other equipment operation. The incumbents work under direction and exercise some independence of judgement and action in solving routine work problems. Oral and written assignments, which may be accompanied by plans or sketches, are received from a supervisor. Complex problems are referred to a supervisor. Work performance is reviewed and evaluated by a supervisor in terms of safe and efficient services rendered to the School District.

**WHAT WE REQUIRE***
- Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices and rules of safe operation of specified tools, equipment and vehicles, used in general maintenance, renovation and construction of grounds.
- Sound knowledge of safe truck driving techniques.
- Ability to effectively and safely perform a variety of semi-skilled and manual tasks related to the maintenance, renovation and construction of grounds and exercise some independent judgment and action in routine assignments.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and read plans and sketches.
- Ability to estimate and order necessary supplies and maintain simple related records.
- Ability to safely operate light vehicles, tractor/backhoe and grounds equipment.
- Ability to safely perform loading, unloading and furniture moving tasks.
- Ability to work safely and effectively with School District staff, students, and the public.
- Skill in the care, maintenance and use of a variety of hand and power tools and equipment.
- Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to safely perform semi-skilled and manual work outdoors in all weather.

**DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE***

Completion of the 11th grade or equivalent, supplemented by technical courses related to the work, plus completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the trade. Two years related experience as a journeyman painter or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

**REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND REGISTRATIONS***
- Valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia.
- British Columbia Certificate of Qualification for Carpentry (T.Q.) or equivalent.

This is a full-time, unionized position, and the current rate of pay is $33.69.
