**Forestry Technician**
**The Organization**:
A.E.W. LP was formed in 2017 by Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council member communities to carry out “on the ground” work related to archaeology, the environment and wildlife protection. This work has been made necessary by activities of others within the Nlaka’pamux homeland including transportation, mining, forestry, oil and gas, and utilities projects. The Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council is not opposed to development within our homeland, but developments and activities must be consistent with Nlaka’pamux title and rights.
**The Role**:
A.E.W. Limited Partnership (A.E.W. LP) is seeking a full-time on-going Forestry Technician based out of Kamloops, BC. We are looking for an entry to intermediate level Forestry professional that is eager to gain experience or add experience in the Forestry industry. The Forestry Technician will provide technical services in a field environment as it relates to forestry, environmental and cultural heritage projects as well as to wildlife, riparian and fuel mitigation studies. Reporting to the Professional Forester, the Forestry Technician will:
- Conduct, supervise and participate in forest inventory cruises, surveys and field measurements following accepted scientific and operational procedures
- Assist and perform technical functions in the preparation of forest management and harvest plans using photogrammetric and mapping techniques and computerized information systems
- Assist in planning and supervise construction of access routes and forest roads
- Co-ordinate activities such as timber scaling, forest fire suppression, disease or insect control or pre-commercial thinning of forest stands
- Supervise and perform technical functions in forest harvesting operations
- Monitor activities of logging companies and contractors and enforce regulations such as those concerning environmental protection, resource utilization, fire safety and accident prevention
- Provide forestry education, advice and recommendations to woodlot owners, community organizations and the general public
- Develop and maintain computer databases
**Requirements**:
- Post-secondary diploma in forestry technology or renewable resource program
- Eligible for enrolment as a trainee Forest Technologist or Forest in Training preferred.
- Physically fit and able to hike through all weather conditions.
- Driver’s license and acceptable drivers abstract.

- Expertise in stumpage rate prediction
- Knowledge in the protocols around First Nation Consultation and information sharing
- Knowledge of the BC Coastal Appraisal policy.
- Familiarity of various logging and road construction equipment capabilities, and knowledge of equipment costs and productivity. Required to plan an economically viable harvest.
- Excellent organizational skills (prioritizing, time management, record keeping, follow up).
- Proven ability to meet tight deadlines, manage conflicting priorities, and work well under pressure in a rapidly changing environment.
- Previous experience working with Indigenous Communities is considered an asset.
- Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and Adobe Acrobat.
