We’re looking for a **Staff Data Scientist** to shape the technical strategy for Data Science and Applied AI at Homebase. You’ll partner closely with senior leadership to set the roadmap, lead complex ML initiatives end-to-end, and coach other scientists to master their craft. This is a high-impact role where you’ll drive innovation in AI, scale production systems, and influence business outcomes that superpower small businesses everywhere.

**These are the key ways you’ll contribute and create impact in this role**:

- Partner with senior leadership to define and deliver a multi-year technical strategy for Data Science and Applied AI.
- Lead end-to-end machine learning projects—from ideation and experimentation to production deployment and monitoring.
- Design and operationalize ML pipelines for batch, streaming, and real-time inference at scale.
- Bring AI breakthroughs into production (LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, AI agents), reshaping workflows for customers and internal teams.
- Provide technical mentorship to data scientists, raising the bar for excellence and execution.
- Translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate across Engineering, Product, Infrastructure, Security, and Design to solve high-stakes customer and business problems.

**The Foundation for Success -**These are the experiences and strengths that will set you up for success in this role:

- 7+ years of software development, with 7+ years specializing in data science and ML.
- Proven record of shipping ML models into production with measurable business impact.
- Deep experience with LLMs (fine-tuning, building RAGs, developing intelligent agents).
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, Spark, Databricks, and Git (or equivalent stack).
- Expertise in CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and MLOps best practices.
- Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a velocity mindset.
- Inclusive, collaborative communicator who can influence across levels and functions.
- AI Fluency: demonstrates the ability to retool workflows, measure impact, and coach teams on AI adoption.
