**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Innovation and Architecture the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Lead brings together the skills of a data engineer and AI modeller with a passion for innovation and willingness to champion the responsible use of AI in healthcare. The lead will be responsible for the design and engineering of datasets and train large machine learning models in alignment with healthcare standards; assess and integrate 3rd party models and tools at Island Health and develop training approaches to increase literacy around and use of AI driven innovations at Island Heath.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline and five (5) years' experience in AI/data engineering or related field including experience as a team lead. Experience with data modeling, ETL/ELT and data warehousing, cloud-based data storage and processing systems (eg. AWS, Google cloud, Azure), and proficiency with a variety of AI based tools (OpenAI, ChatGPT, MidJourney, CoPilot).
**Skills And Abilities**:
- Strong analytical and statistical skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Knowledge of programming languages (eg. R, SQL and Python).
- Knowledge of visualization platforms (Shiny, PowerBi, Tableau).
- Ability to multi-task and handle competing demands.
- Broad understanding of current issues, challenges and future directions of health care delivery in Canada.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
