Animal Care Attendant

**Description**:
Animal Care Attendants are highly trained professionals who work as an integral part of our animal health team. In this position you will use your knowledge and practical skills to provide gold standard veterinary care in support of scientific research. You will work alongside a team of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and scientific researchers.
**Responsibilities**:
- Feeding, cleaning and watering of animals and housing space.
- General animal care, such as nail trims, ear cleaning and providing enrichment.
- Socialization, enrichment and training of animals.
- Handle and restrain animals.
- Assisting in treatment of animals, such as oral administration of medications.
- Performing health observations, reporting concerns to veterinarians.
- Promptly and accurately record data.
**Skills and Qualifications**:
- Completed an Animal Care/Veterinary Assistant certificate program and/or at least 6 months animal care experience (preferred); OSSD graduate applicants are welcome.
- Strong organization and self-management skills with the ability to multi-task.
- Good problem solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to function well in a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
**Working Conditions**:
- Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday
- Typically 8-4 or 7-3, some earlier or later shifts depending on needs
- Participation in holiday shifts/overtime shifts required
- Rotational weekend work (2 on, 4 off)
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Long periods of standing and bending.
- Laboratory/animal environment with potential biohazards present.
**Compensation**:
- Competitive wage commensurate with experience, starting at $20.00/h
- Fully covered health and dental benefits after 3 months
