Home Support/health Care Aide

**About the Position**:
We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and mature **Health Care Aide/Home Support**to provide in-home care for an 80-year-old petite woman with dementia and Parkinson’s disease. This role will involve personal care, assistance with daily activities, and fostering a positive environment with activities and support to enhance the client’s quality of life. The client’s spouse will also be present in the home. Employment will be direct with the family, and we are looking for someone who will work collaboratively with the family and contribute to a nurturing and safe environment for the client.

**We are specifically seeking someone based in the East Maple Ridge area to provide consistent evening support from approximately 5:30pm-10:30pm. Personal vehicle required to access location.**

**About the Location**:
East of Maple Ridge in the Albion/Whonnock area. Beautiful west coast home on hillside property. Spacious with large, south-facing windows looking onto landscaped garden and natural forest. Paths and driveway provide walkable outdoor areas.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Provide **personal care**, including **toileting, dressing, grooming**, and **managing medications** for the client.
- Assist with daily activities, including **facilitation and cueing** to promote independence in tasks such as eating, dressing, and bathing.
- Assist with **general mobility and transfers** to support ongoing safety of the client, who enjoys walking and being up and about in the home.
- Support with **exercise routines** and **therapeutic activities** to maintain mobility and physical health.
- Engage the client in **recreational activities**, such as **crafts, games**, and activities tailored to her abilities and interests.
- Ensure that the client’s **medications** are taken on time and correctly, following instructions from medical professionals and the family.
- Monitor the client’s health, progress, and safety, ensuring accurate documentation of her well-being.
- Provide **companionship** and emotional support to the client, encouraging positive interactions and maintaining dignity.
- Assist with light **housekeeping** duties as required, such as tidying up the client’s environment.
- Communicate regularly with the client’s spouse and family, sharing updates on the client’s care and addressing any concerns.

**Qualifications**:

- **Certified Health Care Aide** with valid certification, or significant relevant work experience will be considered.
- Minimum **3-5 years of hands-on experience** working with clients with dementia and Parkinson’s disease.
- **First Aid** and **CPR** certification required (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to **pass vulnerable sector and criminal record checks**.
- **Car and valid driver’s license** required (necessary to access location).
- **Excellent English** and clear speaking voice.
- Preference for **female** applicants, based on the client’s needs.
- Legally eligible to work in **Canada**.

**Preferred Skills & Assets**:

- Strong **sense of curiosity** and playfulness.
- Interest in **facilitating** activities that engage the client mentally and socially.
- Prepared to be **active and responsive** to client’s impulses to be up and about.
- Availability for **on-call/short-notice shifts** when necessary.
- Prior experience in a similar **Health Care Aide** role is an asset.
- Ability to provide **2 previous employer references** upon request.
