Estimating Manager

We are looking for a motivated individual who is committed to growing their professional career at Vanpile while gaining valuable knowledge and experience through a variety of assignments.
**Responsibilities**
- Organize estimating team(s) to review plans and specifications, prepare bids, select vendors and/or subcontractors and determine cost effectiveness
- Perform risk and contract management responsibilities as required
- Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, and/or availability of materials
- Monitor client addendum and advise the estimating team on changes during the estimate period
- References historical cost and production to current cost estimates
- Ability to understand and advise on overall construction plan, including schedule, constructability and logistics, together with their impact on project costs.
- Review and comment on changes in specifications and plans, work techniques and materials
- Verify that all estimates conform with applicable codes and project specifications, drawings and standards
- Review final estimate
- Follow awarded contracts as assigned: may include estimating extra work items, change orders and advice on major changes in scope of work
- Upon project completion, conduct debriefing with estimating, engineering and production teams to discuss positive aspects and lessons learned of the project
- Monitor actual cost to estimated cost
- Strong commitment to Health, Safety & Environment
**Qualifications / Requirements**
- Marine construction experience such as piers, bridges, docks, berths, dredging, etc. would be an asset
- B.Sc, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar
- Dredging experience is an asset
- Use of computer software: Excel, HeavyBid, AutoCAD & MS Project
- Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proven background in successful project awards on bids that have been successfully delivered across the heavy civil market
- Knowledge and understanding of union agreements and prevailing wage issues.
**Skills/Abilities/Attributes**
- Proven skills in quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimating techniques
- Previous experience in leading, developing and mentoring other team members and junior estimators
- Initiative and sound judgment
- A collaborative, proactive, and results oriented approach
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking/problem solving skills
- Sound prioritization/time-management skills
