**Opportunity**

The Youth Outreach Settlement Worker supports the successful settlement of vulnerable and multi-barriered newcomer youth, ages 13-24. Through an integrated, holistic, and client-centered case-management approach, the Youth Outreach Settlement Worker supports the diverse needs of newcomer youth to gain the capacity and skills to navigate various spheres of life including education, employment, mental health, and family. The Youth Outreach Settlement Worker is preferably fluent in a second language and will provide individual outreach support, in-depth assessment, one-to-one and group work, based on youth-identified needs.

The Youth Outreach Settlement Worker will support youth in identifying needs and strengths and creating a wraparound service plan in response to youth-identified settlement goals. The Youth Outreach Settlement Worker will empower and support newcomer youths to overcome challenges created by cultural and background differences. They will act as youth advocates and a bridge to relevant community resources when encountering adverse experiences such as social isolation, pre-arrival trauma experience, and interruption in schooling. The position requires a solid working knowledge of the issues newcomer youths face while arriving in Canada including cultural sensitivity when supporting their various needs. This includes but is not limited to an understanding of the settlement process, English Language Learner systems, community mental health and family resources.

**This position works flexible hours including evenings and weekends.**

**Responsibilities**
- Participate in the implementation of Strategic Vision.
- Alongside the Youth Newcomer Program team, the Youth Outreach Settlement Worker is responsible for planning, creating, and implementing activities and workshops as outlined by the program activity schedule.
- Activities include one-to-one participant support, information and orientation of Canadian society, family integration, education and employment support, and recreation.
- Activities are implemented for both individual and group models in order to support the unique needs identified by participants. Leadership in community engagement is another important part of the Youth Outreach Settlement Worker’s responsibilities.
- The Youth Outreach Settlement Worker will seek out opportunities to engage with community service providers to ensure activities are relevant to identified community and youth needs.
- Alongside these responsibilities, the Youth Outreach Settlement Worker will show leadership and competency by accurately documenting all activity tracking, case notes, and case management support.
- The Youth Outreach Settlement Worker is an active member of the Youth Newcomer Program Team and will participate in team, site, and agency meetings. The Youth Outreach Settlement Worker will demonstrate competency in communication, collaboration, and creativity, and seek to support their team members in activity planning, implementation, and development.
- The Youth Outreach Settlement Worker will seek out opportunities for professional development and expansion of working knowledge on trauma-informed immigrant and refugee youth service provision.
- The Youth Outreach Settlement Worker will collaborate alongside other PCRS youth programs to ensure service provision is robust and comprehensive.
- The Youth Outreach Settlement Worker will actively create and maintain stakeholder relationships in the communities served by forging mutually beneficial connections and building relevant networks to best serve participants.
- Through collaboration and liaising with community service providers, the Youth Outreach Settlement Worker will actively seek out opportunities for community involvement with newcomer youth.
- This includes but is not limited to community events, recreational opportunities, cultural celebrations, volunteering and employment opportunities.
- The Youth Outreach Settlement Worker will engage in community presentations in various locations (such as schools and immigrant serving agencies) to actively promote PCRS Youth Newcomer Programs and the Surrey Youth Hubs.

**Qualifications**
- Relevant post-secondary degree (Child and Youth Work, Education, Psychology, Social Work) or Child & Youth Care Diploma, plus two years of experience working with at-risk youth populations, or a combination of related education and work experience with youth
- Fluency in a second language ex. Arabic and/or Somali
- Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector
- Basic First Aid certification with CPR-A
- Use of own vehicle required (Mileage is paid)
- Class 4 or 5 driver’s license with Business Use Insurance
- Trauma-informed practice training
- Driver’s Abstract must be submitted
