**A Day in the Life**
The Science Stores Assistant is responsible for the ordering, receiving, stocking and dispensing of supplies, chemicals, equipment, gas cylinders, and distilled water to meet the academic and research needs of students, faculty and staff. The incumbent also supports the disposal of chemicals and chemical waste and maintains the University-wide Workday chemical inventory.

**As the Science Stores Assistant, you will**:

- Place orders for students, faculty and staff on an as per request basis
- Receive and verify items delivered from Shipping and Receiving to ensure accuracy and completeness by matching purchase orders with packing slips or invoices;
- Organize items received and notify appropriate end users to arrange pick up;
- Create and affix purchase item labels for chemicals at the time of arrival;
- Generate receipts and/or expense reports for items purchased; organize and file order forms, invoices, as well as other records of purchases;
- Establish, develop, and maintain positive relationships with suppliers and other third-party contractors;
- Receive gas cylinders from loading dock, label cylinders, ensure cylinders are stored safely and prepare empty cylinders for return;
- Monitor Science Stores inventory levels, replenish and reorder stock as required;
- Perform front facing customer services such as dispensing inventory supplies, equipment and chemicals to students, faculty and staff in accordance with the safety guidelines and preparing and arranging scientific materials to be shipped out;
- Support the waste disposal process, adhering to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Act and corresponding safety procedures;
- Advise student, faculty, staff and other internal partners (e.g., Facilities Management, Custodial Services) on safe and proper waste removal procedures as required.

**What you need to Succeed**
- Undergraduate degree in related field (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or related specialty);
- Completion of WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and First Aid training;
- The ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs when unpacking orders, storing and dispensing inventory;
- A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in purchasing/receiving function in a customer service role and experience working with chemicals and compressed gases;
- Knowledge of scientific equipment, supplies and inventory management;
- Knowledge and experience with handling, storing, dispensing and disposing of chemicals;
- Strong document management and administrative skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy;
- Working knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act and other corresponding regulations, and knowledge of the University purchasing policy;
- Strong interpersonal, customer service and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse population at all levels;
- Ability to resolve problems and respond to inquiries with tact, diplomacy and patience;
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

**Preferred or Asset Skills**
- Related experience in a Science Stores environment.

**Salary and Benefit Information**
- Job Grade I, Salary Scale ($45,231-$62,743)*;
- This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.

This position is included in the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) Union and:

- Salary is therefore determined by the OSSTF Collective agreement. *
- New members shall be placed on the salary grid at the entry level. *
