**Job Title: In-Home Childcare Educator for Baby**

**Hourly rate**: 18-25$/hour based on experience

**Hours per week**: 15 to 21 hours per week

**Schedule**:

- Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m., 12 noon or 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

**Start date**: As soon as possible

**Location**: Montreal, Québec, Cote St. Paul neighbourhood (Jolicoeur metro station)

**About the role**:

- Hello We are looking for someone experienced, warm, thoughtful and detail oriented to support us in the care and education of our 10 month old baby. Our educator should be committed to helping us raise our baby with joy, creativity, positivity and attentiveness.
- About our family: My name is April, I've been living in Montréal for the past 15 years and I teach English while also working towards my doctorate in Education. My partner Étienne is from here, and he's a leadership coach and a violinist. We both enjoy cycling and cooking. Our baby loves books, watching the cats (we have two fur babies as well), visiting new places, playing outside, and laughing
- We will hire the educator as an employee. At-source deductions, vacation pay, holidays, and sick days will be in compliance with applicable regulation.
- The educator will need to submit standard childcare tax slips to Revenu Quebec (RL-24).

**Who we are looking for: You are**:

- Experienced with managing a baby’s day balanced with light housework
- Familiar with child-centered early childhood education principles and pedagogical approaches such as montessori, reggio emelia, rudolph steiner/Waldorf, Foxfire, etc.
- Able to carry a stroller (26 pounds) and the baby (currently 23 pounds) up and down two flights of stairs (we live on the second floor)
- Prepared to go play outside in all kinds of weather and generally enjoy the outdoors
- Able to read and follow instructions for baby routines and tasks as well as show initiative in performing duties
- Familiarity with cloth diapering, baby-led feeding, and use of strollers/baby carriers/baby wearing an asset
- Ability to speak French or other non-English language fluently to the baby an asset

**Examples of Childcare Tasks**:

- Use an app or hard-copy form to track & report feedings, naps, diapers, activities, behaviour
- Warm and feed bottles, following proper breastmilk or formula safety guidelines
- Prepare and feed other snacks and meals following baby-led weaning principles for safe food preparation
- Change, clean (remove poop) and disassemble cloth diapers
- Facilitate playtime (books, toys, tummy time, crafts, music, games) to develop gross and fine motor skills, communication, and developmental milestones
- Take the baby on walks & spend extended time outside at parks every day (use of stroller or baby carrier provided by parents), including in rain/drizzle/snow but not extreme weather. If weather or air quality is not suitable for extended outdoor time, take the baby to the library, café or other indoor activity instead.
- Dress the baby appropriately for weather & sun safety; check UV, temperature and air quality before leaving the house. Use sunscreen for UV or cheek protector for windchill.
- Perform first aid for scrapes and bumps
- Employ responsive non-violent childcare approach: pick up baby when he cries, positive reinforcement and positive redirection of undesirable behaviors (ex. biting, hitting)
- Help baby settle for naps by rocking, singing, or walking in the stroller/carrier
- No phone or laptop while caring for baby, please

**Examples of Baby-related Household Tasks**: During baby's naptimes or solo playtime:

- Prepare an evening meal following a recipe;
- Wash, dry and set up cloth diapers;
- Wash, dry and fold towels, facecloths, and baby clothes;
- Wash bottles, sippy cups or toys;
- Prepare baby snacks and meals;
- Clean-up after activities and put toys away.

**Specific Requirements**:

- 1+ years of experience working as a nanny/daycare educator/au pair etc.
- CPR certification
- Police Background Check
- Eligible to work in Canada
- Able to communicate in French or English
- Not allergic to cats
- Able to commute to and from our home, which is a 10-15 minute walk from metro Jolicoeur or metro Monk.
- Able to commit to a fixed schedule
- Able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and navigate onto bus or metro with a stroller
- In-progress or completed studies in Early Childhood Education or related certificate/diploma (doula, education, social work, leisure, etc.) an asset
- Able to speak to baby in French or any language other than English an asset
