The Environmental Conservation Lab at the University of Manitoba is Hiring a Land Based Education Coordinator Technician 4 (AESES)

The Environmental Conservation Lab is seeking a passionate and experienced Land-Based Education Coordinator to lead and support land-based camps, workshops, and educational initiatives in collaboration with Indigenous communities and schools. This full-time, grant-funded position focuses on fostering relationships with Indigenous youth, mentoring students, and promoting two-eyed seeing approaches to environmental learning. **RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Co-design and facilitate land-based camps and campus visits in collaboration with partner communities and schools
- Provide land-based workshops for partner school divisions
- Develop land-based educational materials and tools
- Build relationships with Indigenous youth and students through camps, campus visits, and workshops
- Work with and mentor undergraduate summer students involved in the project
- Create project updates and two-eyed seeing content for ECL communications and project website
- Maintain open communication with project partners and ECL staff
- Schedule and facilitate meetings as needed
- Attend scheduled ECL meetings
- Create budgets for camps and campus visits
- Make payments as needed
- Handle receipts and reconcile expenses
- Maintain records of project activities, outreach, and associated impacts
- Document project activities through photos and video
- Write final evaluation report for the project
- Other duties as assigned
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING**:
- Undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies, Indigenous Studies, Science, or completion of a program related directly to land-based education
- Will also accept an Undergraduate degree in an unrelated field along with working experience in land-based education
**EXPERIENCE**:
- Experience working in Northern and/or Indigenous communities is a must
- Experience working with youth and being in a mentorship role required
- Experience in a supervisory position required
- Experience with basic water and soil testing required
- Working knowledge of and/or experience with land-based education and two-eyed seeing approaches required
- Working knowledge of and/or lived experience with Indigenous cultures (e.g. Ininew, Anishinaabe, Oji-Cree) is a must
- Familiarity with Indigenous research methodologies required
- Comfort working with environmental sciences and scientists required
- Commitment to and experience with social and/or environmental justice work required
**SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:
- Must be able to work in a team-based, collaborative, and flexible working environment
- Strong planning and organizational skills required
- Strong oral and written communication skills required
- Effective decision-making and time management skills required
- Must be self-motivated
- Working knowledge of budgets and basic accounting required
- Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software required
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and be approachable in the field when working with community partners, youth, Elders, local harvesters, and scientists required
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required
**OTHER JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATIONS**:
- We are seeking an Indigenous applicant
- Interest in photography and video is an asset
- A driver’s license is an asset
