**Hours of work: 35 hours per week**
Reporting to the Supervisor of Traffic Signals and Streetlights, the Specialist Traffic Signals and Streetlights is responsible for significant contributions to complex and high-profile projects/assignments within the Traffic Signals and Streetlights group.
**What you will do in this role**:
- Provide unique and specialized support to the strategic implementation of various Traffic Signal and Streetlight initiatives
- Develop evidence-based policies and processes which align with the departmental focus
- Explore and develop web-based traffic initiatives to provide essential data and information to clients, both public and private.
- Support project teams and works closely with internal partners both within and across Departments
- Act as a liaison between teams and represent the group in meetings and committees.
- Assess, review and address client needs, including traffic inquiries, capital project reviews, and data collection requests.
- Conduct research and policy reviews relating to Traffic Signal and Street-lighting, manage traffic signal and streetlight related inventories, and participate in team projects involving Traffic Signal and Streetlight issues.
- Oversee the management of the group's Maintenance, Red Light Camera and Systems Contractors.
- Manage the ARRASC and Red Light Camera agreements.
- Lead and participate in specialized research initiatives related to traffic signals and street-lighting
- Analyze issues and solve problems immediately in the field in order to provide direction to consultant, contractors, and other staff
- Required to be an expert witness, including discovery and preliminary information gathering and discussions, providing legal information regarding traffic signals and street-lighting and being interrogated during the trial.
- Develop and maintain minimum maintenance standards, ensuring the integrity of our traffic signal systems and street-lighting standards.
**What the role requires**:
- A diploma in Transportation/Civil Engineering Technology.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience related to the management of a regional road system.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of traffic signal and street-lighting design practices and standards, related codes, regulations, safety acts, tendering/contract process, and contract administration
- Knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Code and the Ontario Electrical Safety Association (ESA)
- Knowledge of industry-accepted construction methods as related to traffic signals and streetlighting
- Knowledge of coordinating and developing progression networks using the latest tools Registered as an IMSA Traffic Signal Technician, Levels 1 and 2 with the International Municipal Electrical Association (IMSA)
- Knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act, Ontario Traffic Manuals, Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS), Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD),
- Advanced computer skills, including MS Office, AGI, Microstation v8i, Autoturn, GIS Workspace, TES, Synchro, TSD Win.
- Knowledge of financial software used for budgeting and procurements.
- 3 years of experience in advanced traffic management systems such as iNet and Maxview.
- Valid G driver’s license (in good standing) and daily access to a vehicle
