**Job Description**:
***:Under the general supervision of the Manager - Community Strategies, the Intern will provide coordination support to the Anti-Racism & Equity Advisory Committee in its development and implementation of a four-year action plan, and support the implementation of anti-racism and anti-discrimination actions identified in the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan, and the three-year
**respect.** Work Plan.

**The Work Plans**:
Anti-Racism & Equity Advisory Committee is mandated to develop and recommend a four-year action plan to address individual, institutional and systemic racism, and to promote equity and inclusion for the Committee’s implementation.

The Community Safety & Well-Being Plan is provincially mandated and proactively addresses locally identified priority risks to community safety and well-being, including reducing racism and discrimination.

The
**respect.** Working Group aims to challenge attitudes, beliefs and behaviours that fail to recognize the importance of human dignity and works to bring awareness to appropriate and constructive ways to interact in society.

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Coordinates activities of the Anti-Racism & Equity Advisory Committee (AREAC) and the Initiative Working Group, including supporting regular meeting and roundtable planning logistics.
- Responsible for recording confidential meeting minutes, and supporting the preparation of briefing notes.
- Responds to research requests, undertakes research for AREAC and the Initiative Working Group, and responds to requests for **respect.** resources.
- Works collaboratively with the Indigenous Relations Section to support the advancement of the Anti-Racism & Inclusion Accord.
- Researches best practices for welcoming and anti-racism approaches in other municipalities.
- Carry out welcoming initiatives identified in the Initiative and the Seven Youth Coroner's Inquest.
- Liaising and building working relations with community organizations around anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
- Obtains direction from the Initiative Working Group to reflect priorities, with a focus on expanding welcoming initiatives identified in the **respect.** Initiative and Seven Youth Inquest.
- Develops and implements initiatives to foster a more vibrant, inclusive and welcoming community as directed by the AREAC and Work Plans, and guided by the Seven Youth Inquest.
- Supports AREAC’s and the Initiative Working Group’s ongoing development of awareness materials and media initiatives, including social media.
- Develops positive messages of inclusiveness for distribution through media outlets for public consumption.
- Participates in internal and external committees as required.
- Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of anti-racism, diversity, inclusion and equity issues.
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education/Experience**:

- Degree or diploma in social sciences, or community development
- Working knowledge of anti-racism, human rights and equity

**Skills/Abilities**:

- Ability to identify, understand, and meet/exceed the requirements of internal/external customers
- Self-starter with proven research, time management, analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Demonstrated online communication skills, including social media
- Ability to function and contribute as an effective team member and to work independently
- Must be proficient in the use of computers and current related software
- Demonstrated organizational and event planning skills
- Ability to display sensitivity and commitment to human rights and equity issues
- Ability to use independent judgement when dealing with confidential or sensitive Corporate, public and departmental issues

**Assets**:

- Knowledge of Indigenous governance, issues, protocols, and culture
- Ability to speak Ojibwe, Oji-Cree or Cree

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:

- Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matter
