**The opportunity**:
The University of Manitoba as a part of its Strategic Plan has committed to increasing our Indigenous hires and revising policies and procedures to ensure a safe and supportive working and learning environment for Indigenous Peoples. As a strategic partner, the Indigenous HR Consultant (HRC) aligns university strategic objectives with employees and management in academic and administrative units. The Indigenous HRC serves as a consultant to Deans and unit managers on HR related matters (recruitment, hiring, retention, work culture). The Indigenous HRC assesses and anticipates HR-related needs and assists with HR-related strategic planning for units across the university. Communicating these needs proactively with the Director, HR Client Services and university clients, the HRC seeks to develop integrated solutions to meet university strategic goals and to ensure a supportive work and learning environment. The HRC formulates partnerships across HR functions to deliver value-added services to departments and units as well as individual staff members.

This individual will also play a key role in promoting and providing Indigenous HR support across the University primarily focused on the recruitment and retention of Indigenous employees.

**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:
THIS POSITION IS DESIGNATED FOR INDIGENOUS CANDIDATES. APPLICANTS MUST SELF-DECLARE ON THEIR COVER LETTER/RESUME AS INDIGENOUS (FIRST NATION, METIS AND/OR INUIT).
- Undergraduate degree with courses in human resources, or an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
- A CPHR designation is preferred.
- A minimum of 8 years of directly related HR generalist experience is required, or an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience working in a complex unionized environment preferred.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of multiple HR disciplines.
- Experience with job classification systems desired.
