**Main Purpose and Function**

The Planning Assistant III position is a key member of the Complete Neighbourhoods / Area Planning & Implementation team within Community Planning; Long-Range and Strategic Planning. The position will support a variety of area planning activities. A core component of the role will involve undertaking research, assisting with public consultation, developing information graphics to communicate complex ideas, and collecting and analyzing information. Other community and area planning activities (technical analysis, policy development, policy implementation) will also be part of the work program.

**Specific Duties/Responsibilities**

The Planning Assistant III will provide a range of technical services including:

- Public Engagement -**Organizing workshops, public open houses, and other consultation events; assisting with the preparation of supporting materials such as presentation boards and materials, informational graphics, presentations, bulletins, newsletters, and advertising content; managing stakeholder contacts and mailing lists.
- Research -**Researching, mapping, and analyzing data on various neighbourhood planning topics; assessing results and communicating key findings.
- Supporting Policy Process - Assisting with matters related to the creation and implementation of planning policy, including land use and urban design directions, and other topics relevant to complete neighbourhoods.
- Other related duties as assigned.

**Minimum Qualification Requirements**

Education and Experience:

- Minimum requirement: completion of the twelfth school grade or equivalent in a technical or vocational school, supplemented by or including courses in graphics, community engagement, GIS, or other related courses.
- Previous experience as a Planning Assistant I (or related role) is preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Post-secondary degree in Planning or related discipline is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Applicants must have strong interpersonal and communications skills (written, graphic, and verbal)
- Sound research and analytical abilities and an aptitude for the technical aspects of planning work.
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and graphics programs (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) is required, and familiarity with GIS (ArcGIS) 3D modelling software (e.g. SketchUp) is an asset.
- Ability to both work independently and participate successfully on work teams, and to complete assignments using sound professional techniques and judgment.
- Ability to self-manage workload and meet time demands (e.g., prioritize tasks, communicate expected time frames for the delivery of items with staff and request help when needed) is a requirement.
- Ability to occasionally work outside typical business hours to accommodate meetings and consultation initiatives.
- Ability to meet transportation requirements.
- Knowledge of a language other than English is an asset.
