**Main Purpose and Function**
The Planning Assistant III is responsible for helping implement the City of Vancouver Street Use Programs, including shared micromobility, and related projects focused on advancing the City’s public space goals. The Planning Assistant III is responsible for conducting research, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, and preparing engagement and communication material to support shared micromobility programs under the direction of the Senior Project Manager.
**Specific Duties/Responsibilities**
- Provides research, analysis, communications and graphic design support for the implementation of Street Use programs and other public space and street use related policy.
- Develops plans, presentations, maps and graphics for Council reports, public engagement and internal communications.
- Organizes and participates in public engagement processes including facilitation and minute-taking.
- Manages Street Use Management’s communication channels (create content, monitor newsfeeds and seek opportunities to leverage other channels).
- Liaises with diverse stakeholder groups and handles public inquires both verbally and in writing.
- Liaises with staff from a variety of divisions and departments, including Planning, Development Building and Licensing and Engineering.
- Collects, organizes and/or analyzes public space, transportation use data.
- Attends public events as required outside of regular work hours.
- Performs other technical office and field work duties as required.
- Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
**Minimum Qualification Requirements**
Education and Experience:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, supplemented or including post-secondary training in urban design, planning, public policy and sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of training or experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Sound knowledge of local public space issues and active transportation best practices.
- Sound knowledge of drafting, layout work, report design and reproduction and of graphical presentation of statistical data and planning projects.
- Sound knowledge of departmental functions, objectives and procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills and the ability to deal effectively with staff, the public and external agencies.
- Advanced graphic skills and ability to translate complex concepts into accurate, easily readable products.
- Skilled at conducting consultation, research and analysis.
- Ability to participate in public space engagement by using relevant techniques and practices.
- Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and function as a team player while also working individually with mínimal supervision.
- Ability to read and interpret site plans.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse group to develop optimal solutions.
- Proficiency with analysis, graphic design and GIS Software packages including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
- Experience with public space planning, policy analysis, transportation design, and shared micromobility policy would be an asset.
- Proficiency with MAPublisher and other design software (AutoCAD, SketchUp) would be an asset.
