**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The Associate Dean works in conjunction with the Executive Dean towards a strategic vision for the school and assists in the future development of programs and partnerships: leading faculty and staff of the Faculty in planning, securing resources; implementing and evaluating activities related to academic operations; ensuring service to students, fiscal management and facility oversight. The Associate Dean represents the Faculty both internally to the College and externally to the various stakeholders/partners. The Associate Dean also serves as part of the institution's administrative team through active participation in various institutional planning, implementing and evaluating activities.
The supervisor is expected to provide support and guidance in fulfilling their responsibilities as stated in the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations. He/she shall be familiar with and receive training to assure adequate knowledge of the requirements of the Act, relevant to their departmental activities.
Duties include, but are not limited to, responding in an appropriate manner to any reports of unsafe acts or conditions, performing workplace inspections to confirm safe work conditions, arranging for additional evaluations or consultations (if required) and initiating measures to acquire the necessary resources (financial and otherwise) to address identified health and safety deficiencies. The supervisor should provide opportunities for, and promote discussion of, safe work conditions on a routine basis (i.e. staff meetings) Where appropriate or necessary, specific tasks to address unsafe acts or conditions may be delegated (i.e. have a staff member raise a work order or arrange a meeting with a staff member).
**Academic Programs**:
- Support the develop and implementation of a strategic curriculum process that clarifies curriculum goals and provides for program priorities, curriculum currency, quality, flexibility and
- Program cost effectiveness.
- Promote effective and innovative instructional methods through collaboration with the Faculty’s program faculty and/or part-time and the College’s Teaching and Learning Centre (Innovation Centre) as well as identifying and encouraging appropriate professional development opportunities for the faculty and/or part-time related to program quality.
- Support the Executive Dean in providing leadership for program growth through evaluation of existing courses and curricula, revision or development of new courses and programs, and participation in program reviews, program accreditation.
- In conjunction with the Executive Dean forecast student enrollment numbers for all Faculty programs for first year intake and subsequent year retention for budgeting and recruitment purposes
- Participate in program marketing efforts in coordination with the college’s marketing department.
- Collaborate with the Executive Dean to identify, negotiate and oversee academic articulation agreements with other institutions.
- Collaborate and identify detailed program needs including required specialized space, necessary equipment and equipment upgrades, classroom/office renovations, etc.
- Participate in the implementation of initiatives established by the college and government authorities as they relate to the Faculty’s academic enterprise including quality plans, PLAR, General Education, Essential Employability Skills and the Minister’s Binding Policy Directives on Programs of Study
