Employee Relations Advisor

Reporting to the Associate Director, the Employee Relations Advisor is responsible for supporting the Associate Director on a wide range of Employee and Labour Relations (ER/LR) matters, including but not limited to; workplace investigations, performance management, terminations, disciplinary action, accommodations, grievance management, building people leader capabilities and providing guidance and expertise while liaising with stakeholders, as required.
**Accountabilities**:
Leads employee relations processes, including performance improvement plans, workplace investigations, workplace accommodations, disciplinary action, and terminations;
Demonstrates exceptional people skills and ability to influence leaders to ensure outcome of ER/LR processes are aligned to the people strategy and mitigate legal, financial and reputational risk;
Recognizes and executes on opportunities to optimize the employee and people leader experience;
Identifies trends, and partners with stakeholders to proactively support people leaders with ER/LR matters;
Promptly responds to escalated ER/LR questions and concerns using sound judgement and technical expertise;
Solid knowledge and understanding of HR policies and practices and employment legislation across multiple jurisdictions;
May be required to work in a unionized environment and assist in labour relations processes such as labour management meetings;
Leads the full cycle of workplace investigations in accordance with applicable policies and local legislation;
Maintains accurate case management process, records, case notes and document all ER/LR inquiries;
Maintains fulsome and detailed tracking of ER related matters for quarterly reporting purposes;
Collaborates with the broader HR community in the delivery of shared initiatives as required.
**Skills & Experience**:
3+ years of HR experience, including 1+ years as HR Business Partner or equivalent
General HR knowledge of policies and processes;
Completed post-secondary education, preferably in HR or Business Administration, working towards completion of HR designation an asset;
Knowledge of union environment and collective bargaining agreements;
Strong relationship management, effective listening, communication skills and interpersonal skills across all levels with commitment to providing timely responses;
Sound judgment and problem-solving skills;
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple initiatives and deadlines;
Knowledge of employee data administration and end-to-end processes; experience with transaction processing and data management;
Knowledge of HR system, and ability to leverage basic technology functionality. Working knowledge of Workday an asset;
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and approach highly sensitive situations with professionalism and calm.
Strong communication skills, ability to respond with tact and diplomacy in high stress situations.
