**PERSONAL SUPPORT WORKER (PSW), Sudbury ON**

**Three (3) casual positions**

**Must be available to work varying shifts, on weekends and on statutory holidays**

The PSW is responsible for providing assistance with all activities of daily living, as well as providing end-of-life care to residents and their families. The PSW will foster an environment that is safe and home-like, and will work in accordance with established policies and procedures of MMH. While performing any and all duties of this position, the PSW will work in a safe and healthy manner and follow the regulations in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

**MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY**
- Resident and Family Care -Work Environment -Physical Demands -Risk Management

**Necessary**:

- Graduation and Certification from an accredited Personal Support Worker Program
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position: lifting objects over 25 lbs., frequent standing, bending, constant walking
- Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care (LEAP Personal Support Worker) or to obtain certification within three (3) months of hire date

**Preferred**:

- Completion of Level 1 HPC course an asset
- The Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care (or working to achieve this course)
- Recent medical/Hospice Palliative Care (HPC) experience an asset
- Bilingualism (English/French), written and verbal, (or willingness to pursue) is an asset

**Other Skills / Abilities**:

- Knowledgeable about, and committed to, the Hospice philosophy of care
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Basic Computer skills
- Time management skills
- Ability to complete repetitive tasks
- Ability to work with a team environment and take direction from your supervisor or acting supervisor (RN/ RPN)
- Demonstrated decision making skills

**SALARY**:Starting at $24.36 per hour

**PENSION PLAN**: Casual employees are eligible to participate in the HOOPP Defined Benefit Pension Plan.
