**The Opportunity**:
As **Backend Team Lead**, you’ll drive the success of WHC’s development team, ensuring agility, quality, and scalability in our web solutions. Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, you’ll lead a team of developers, refine processes, and optimize system architecture.

WHC’s development team builds and enhances the systems that power thousands of Canadian businesses online. This role is your chance to lead, innovate, and make a real impact in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

**What You’ll Do**:

- ** Lead & Manage the Development Team** - Provide guidance, coaching, and accountability to ensure high performance and continuous improvement.
- ** Oversee Agile Development Projects** - Manage sprint planning, kickoffs, development, deployments, and retrospectives.
- ** Maintain High-Quality & Security Standards** - Enforce best practices in coding, security, and software architecture.
- ** Improve Development Processes & System Architecture** - Identify areas for optimization and drive improvements.
- ** Foster a Learning Culture** - Ensure team members receive training and create thorough technical documentation.
- ** Hire & Onboard New Developers** - Build and nurture a strong, skilled, and collaborative development team.

**What You Bring**:

- Strong verbal and written communication with the ability to guide and manage teams effectively.
- Expertise in project management, such as Agile methodology, including sprint planning, stakeholder alignment, and driving projects forward efficiently. (PMP certification or experience with Shape Up is an asset.)
- Ability to assess, validate, and translate stakeholder ideas into actionable development projects.
- Skilled at optimizing and prioritizing resources to balance priorities and maximize efficiency and team output.
- Technical Experience:
- 6+ years of software development experience (PHP & JavaScript)
- 5+ years working with SQL
- 3+ years in a leadership or management role
- Hands-on experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing
- Experience working with Linux environments
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience (preferred)
