Pets Canada’s mission is to offer guidance and resources to pet businesses and help advance the well-being of Canada’s animals. As a not-for-profit trade association for pet related businesses, we represent over 1750 members coast to coast and believe working together is the key to positive pet experiences and successful pet businesses.
This role reports to the Vice President, Advocacy & Regulatory Affairs
**Responsibilities**:
- Develop and implement strategies to recruit new members and retain existing ones, including outreach, presentations, and follow-ups.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with members, identifying their needs and providing tailored support.
- Advocate for member interests within the organization and in external forums.
- Collaborate with team members to align member engagement efforts with organizational advocacy goals.
- Curate and maintain Pets Canada resources for members, ensuring they have access to valuable tools and information.
- Investigate and secure additional member benefits to increase the value of membership.
- Provide support to the VP, assisting with tasks that enhance the advocacy, membership and regulatory affairs functions.
- Organize and participate in events, trade shows, and initiatives such as Community Awards to promote membership growth and engagement.
- Monitor industry trends and legislative changes that could impact members, providing timely updates and insights.
- Create and distribute engaging content to keep members informed and involved in advocacy efforts.
- Coordinate member feedback and use it to inform organizational strategies and advocacy positions.
- Oversee the engagement, organization, and execution of the Canadian Pet Community Awards, with the communications department providing vital support.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment on membership initiatives, advocacy campaigns, and organizational goals, fostering a cohesive and integrated approach across all functions.
- Prepare regular reports on membership and advocacy activities for the VP.
**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in sales, membership recruitment, or advocacy, preferably in a nonprofit or association setting.
- Proficiency with customer relationship management (CRM) software and other membership database systems.
- Familiarity with digital marketing tools and platforms for member engagement.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Comfortable with public speaking.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Fluency in both English and French, with strong verbal and written communication skills is a must.
- Knowledge of the pet industry or experience with animal welfare organizations is a plus.
**Additional Role Information**:
- Occasional overnight(s) travel within Canada may be required
- Pets Canada closes between Christmas and New Year (paid holiday)

Pay: $50,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
