Youth Worker

**Position Summary**:
The Youth Worker provides individual programming to children and youth requiring additional support in their lives. The role is a supportive position and aids youth in their journey towards self-discovery, empowerment and self-sufficiency. The Youth Worker serves as a life skills “teacher” that is specialized in assessing and attending to the unique issues of youth. The Youth Worker may serve as an advocate for youth and pairs their knowledge, passion and clinical skills to determine the need for learning and mastery with at-risk clients.
**Key Roles and Responsibilities**:
- Provide direct support to high risk youth who may be experiencing struggles or barriers that have a negative impact on their overall health and wellbeing;
- Develop individualized programming and goals specific to their area of focused growth;
- Activity planning that meet the recreational, educational and or therapeutic needs of the client;
- Connects clients to community resources, services, and natural supports;
- Accurate assessment of personal limitations and the requirement for additional supports;
- Development of a trusting and therapeutic relationship with clients;
- Assist clients in the development of social skills, communication skills, and meaningful relationships;
- Teach life skills through role modelling of appropriate behaviour and be able to assess client deficits and strengths and use systematic plans of instruction, teaching methods and approaches to transfer information and skill to clients;
- Counselling skills that provide learning opportunities which focus on problem solving, deescalation, and preventative interventions;
- Documentation of support provided through service planning and assessments.
- Attend ongoing Trainings as outlined by Canadian Accreditation Council and Worth Resolving Youth & Family Services;
- Adhere to agency health and safety guidelines, including COVID-19 protocols;
- Consult with the Director(s) should concerns or questions arise; and,
- Liaise with Children Service workers and attend professional meetings when required
**Qualifications and Requirements**:
- Hold a degree or diploma OR two (2) years of relevant experience in the human service field and/or actively enrolled in equivalent education;
- Clear Intervention Record Search and Police Information Check (with vulnerable sector search);
- Must have own vehicle in safe, reliable operating condition;
- Valid Non-GDL Class 5 Driver’s License with less than six (6) demerit points;
- Familiarity with The Ministry of Children Services, Child and Youth Family Enhancement Act, and Signs of Safety framework;
- Ability to recognize and report child abuse and/or family violence (in general) when necessary;
- Knowledge of safety precautions and injury prevention for children and families in and outside home, vehicle, or community;
- Training in Trauma Informed Care and Foundations of Caregiver Support;
- Strong understanding of child development and healthy, appropriate parenting techniques;
- Culturally competent and LGBTQ2+ welcoming and supportive;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Critical thinking skills, in addition to ability to use ethical and sound judgment;
- Ability to work independently, in a team, and collaborate with other professionals;
- Flexible, reliable, and adaptable to changing situations.
