**Building and Facility Caretaker**

**Your responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to**:

- Performing ongoing cleaning functions while operating cleaning equipment and light maintenance duties (i.e. light bulb and tube replacement, unclogging toilets and sinks, mopping/sweeping floors after recesses and lunches, etc.)
- Perform health and safety functions including escorting and supervising students during morning drop-off and evening pick-up times; ensuring the facilities, including stairwells, hallways, washrooms, classrooms, and all administrative and staff spaces are free from hazards at all times.
- Responsible for building maintenance and operation, including opening and closing of facilities during school days, special events, as well evenings and weekends when required, while ensuring the building is secured nightly.
- Responsible for all external contracted work including sourcing most cost efficient supplies and trades, planning and maintaining workflow schedule, gaining necessary work approvals and supervision of external workers.
- Responsible as primary contact for building’s security (including fire, alarm systems)
- Responsible for the planning, execution and maintenance of logs of all annual, semiannual, monthly, daily and seasonally required work (playground inspections, fire drills, sprinkler inspection, daily water flushing, pest control, etc.)
- Perform interior and exterior maintenance of building facilities and equipment (i.e. salting and shoveling all walkways, removal of debris and garbage bins, repairing and painting/staining, etc.)
- Mover Assignment: Moves, loads and unloads furniture and equipment. Move furniture to clean.
- Recycling functions as needed including moving, loading and unloading recycling containers and/or heavy recyclable materials and equipment. Sorts paper, shreds, and bales recyclable materials.
- Building maintenance functions including inventory of caretaking equipment and maintaining all logs
- Uses and maintains supplies required by the school and evening caretaking team in a safe, economical and proper manner
- Reports malfunctioned equipment and/or broken furniture, fixtures, or equipment and of any non-caretaking items requiring maintenance.
- Performs other duties as require by the School from time to time

**Qualifications**
- Experience as a Caretaker, including cleaning commercial or institutional buildings, knowledge of cleaning strategies, waste management and recycling processes.
- Ability to communicate comfortably in English verbally and in written form.
- Knowledge of WHMIS 2015 (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System), and OH & S (Occupational Health & Safety Act).
- Ability to follow detailed established procedures and methods to perform job duties and prioritize the order in which assigned areas are cleaned.
- Attention to detail is required to operate caretaking equipment, and to ensure cleaning is performed to established standards.
- A demonstrated commitment to client service, specifically students, staff & faculty.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment
- A demonstrated record of attendance, reliability and dependability.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
