**Specific Tasks andResponsibilities**
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs and policies in line with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
- Collaborate with site managers and supervisors to ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures.
- Lead incident investigations and develop corrective action plans to prevent future occurrences.
- Conduct safety meetings and training sessions to promote a culture of safety and awareness.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of safety-related activities and incidents.
- Participate in the effective development, delivery and implementation of health & safety policies, programs and communications that support the maintenance and evolution of FTC Health and Safety Management System (HSMS).
- Determine through needs-analysis the requirements and priorities for safe work processes in maintenance and operational functions with a focus on high-risk tasks.
- Assist unit management in the development and implementation of the H&S Improvement Plan objectives, identifying improvement areas and developing associated action plans.
- Provide analyses and interpretation of health and safety metrics and key performance indicators.
- Provide H&S statistical information and key indicators in a meaningful format for business units and management teams to support effective decision-making.
- Works to ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and fulfillment of contractual environmental, health and safety requirements.
- Engage, coach and influence site, unit, and functional leaders on matters concerning health & safety, with an aim of 50% “face time” in the field within their areas of responsibility.
- Develop and deliver health & safety training modules and programs reflective of applicable legislative requirements and corporate health & safety policies, procedures and practices.
- Facilitate and participate in incident/accident investigations and risk assessments.
- Develop corrective actions and follow up on actions to ensure compliance and root-cause analyses are completed according to incident type and risk.
- Actively manage post-incident matters including incident reporting and post incident action items.
- Work alongside HR team regarding Worker’s Compensation claims and Early and Safe Return to Work initiatives.
- Lead preparation for COR audits, monitor status of actions to address audit recommendations to ensure actions are completed on time, and provide assistance to identify and remove barriers to completion.
- Actively work to develop or identify systems, programs and training needs, and ensure these solutions are implemented and aligned with HSMS requirements.
- Provides leadership, coaching, and development opportunities to stretch and challenge staff to deliver results & strengthen relationships within the team, functional units, and customers.
- Overlook the work of, conduct regular check-ins with, and deliver performance review to the health and safety team.
- Additional duties as required.
**Position Requirements**
- Occupational Health and Safety Officer certificate or NSCO designation
- 10 years of experience working in a Health and Safety role in Construction’s ICI sector
- 3 years of experience working in a managerial role
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in both official languages (French and English)
- COR, WHMIS, Working at Heights, First Aid & CPR certification
- 3 years’ experience of implementing safe work practices and policies within a construction environment
- Experience with accident investigation, workplace inspection, and job hazardanalysis
- Knowledge and understanding of current legislations
- Confidence, with the proven ability to build credibility and strong partnerships
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task while maintaining a high level of attention to detail
- Knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety legislation in Ontario and Quebec
- Ability to determine the priority of assignments based on critical deadline
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Experience in implementing OSH training programs
- Ability to work; days, evenings and weekend including holidays, as required to support operational requirements
