The Legal Services Division of Alberta Justice (the Division) is the civil legal advisor to the Government of Alberta. Legal officers in the Division practice in diverse areas of law. They carry out a variety of functions, including providing legal advice to Government departments; managing risks; conducting civil litigation; and drafting bills, regulations, Orders in Council and Ministerial orders.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Are you an exceptional lawyer looking for a unique challenge with meaningful impact? Alberta Justice - Legal Services Division has an opportunity for you to join the Trade, Innovation, Post Secondary Legal Team (TIPS).

We are looking for a dynamic lawyer to provide solicitor services to our clients and to build on solid relationships.

TIPS provides legal and strategic advice to the Government of Alberta, including to the following departments: Jobs, Economy and Trade, Advanced Education, Tourism and Sport, Technology and Innovation, and Executive Council. We provide advice on contract and procurement matters, legislative development, domestic and international trade agreements, risk management, and departmental programs and strategic initiatives. The work is fast paced and provided in a team environment.

In your role with TIPS, you’ll be responsible for:

- Drafting substantive legal opinions (often with cross-ministry involvement)
- Providing legal and strategic advice to a diverse group of clients, with a focus on
- Administrative Law
- Contracts Law
- Corporate Law
- Statutory Interpretation
- Privacy Law
- Drafting and review of contracts, grants, and other legal agreements
- Legal advisory services for the development of legislative projects
- Advising on procurement issues
- Conducting legal research
- Acting as a resource for Legal Services Division colleagues

**Qualifications**:
A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (JD). For Law degrees obtained outside Canada, proof of accreditation from the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) is required. You must be an active member or must have immediate eligibility for full membership with the Law Society of Alberta.
